My dd goes to a very small school (there are like 500 students, 7th - 12th grade). We live on a military base overseas, and this is the only secondary school on the base, if that gives you an idea of how small our community is. The school, while on the base, is not "ran by" the base - it's run by Dodea - a hybrid between the dept of defense and the dept of ed (federal level).
This is the 3rd year that I've had kids in this school, it's the second year that the principal has been the principal here (the first year we were here, she was the new vp). In the time we've been here, there has been less than 5 fights at the school.
Yet, it was just announced (with NO prior notice to the parents or discussion), that all students are now required to wear a lanyard with a name tag on it, every day, fully visible (they were presented with them today, many names spelled wrong, etc). They were told it was due to "security issues" and "so the principal can learn everyone's names". Staff are not required to wear them. (This is the same principal who, last year after the huge quake we had here, literally was trying to talk to the HIGH SCHOOLERS with an animal puppet, asking "as the puppet" about their feelings...)
I'm not happy with this. Would you be, under the same circumstances?
