  • Just know where they are and what they are doing at all times. If you can't trust the neighbor children, don't let yours alone with them. I still think those ages are much too young to be one their own. I would say more like 13 and up... but like I said, it depends on where you live and if you have trust or not.

  • Our kids play outside. The 13 year old can go off around the block. The smaller ones have to stay in the front yard. Our daughter can only be out there if she has a friend (or a brother) out there. And the little one can only go out if his brother or sister is out there with him.

  • Ours are 6, 9 & 10. They pretty much stay around the house unless they take a walk around the block but they're always together when they do. And we have a third line on our cell phones that they sometimes use when they're outside.

  • My kids are 7, 9, and 11. My 11 year old has been going across the street since he was about 8. He and the neighbor's son are best friends so I used to watch him run across the street.

Now as long as I know were they are they are allowed to play outside without me. Usually the 2 older ones do, but I have not really let me youngest go very far yet. She plays outside as long as her brothers are with her or if she has a friend. She also usually stays in the back unless there is a big group playing together.

Last summer we let the older 2, as long as they were together or with friends, ride their bikes around the block.

I think as long as they are together and you trust them and have taught them well then you have your answer.

  • I satrted letting them play with the other kids WAY younger than that. At like 4. My kids all rode a two wheeler by then so I let them ride with the other kids on the block. At 7 they are allowed to go riding around the block(they must ask first and take a cell phone) and cross the street as long as they follow the rules.

  • It all depends on where you live. Small town versus big city..........busy street versus quiet cul de sac...........friendly neighbors in every house versus lots of people you don't know.

My kids have been running around the neighborhood since they were 6 or 7. I know all the neighbors and they know us so we all watched out for everyone's kids.
