I have used both, and although I prefer BJ for younger grades over Abeka, I do not care much for either of them now and don't use them anymore. I personally feel that Abeka (at least for younger grades) tries to teach too much, too fast, and ends up confusing the kids. BJ, on the other hand, does not have as much review as I'd like. We have used Saxon, which is ok, and are now using Sunrise workbooks for math. They teach math with the same spiral method as Saxon, but are more kid friendly and interesting.
