  • if they whimper when weight is put on it or jerk and whimper when you touch it

  • If the bone protrudes it is easy. Otherwise swelling, tenderness, won't step down on it.

  • go to the vet and get it Xrayed that's the only way to know for sure.

  • my dads dog had a broken leg and did not walk on it. My dad could not afford to pay to have it fixed so the vet told him it is natural for the dog to walk on 3 legs and when the bad leg heels he will start to use it again. That was over 5 years ago and the dog walks just fine.

  • Get x-ray. Just because it's swollen or he won't bear weight doesn't mean it's broken. Check underneath and between toes for a cut or something.
