  • hmmmmmmmm... basil, oregano, italian seasoning, cumin, bay leaves, chili powder, cayenne, red pepper flakes, lemon pepper, dry mustard, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, all spice, thyme, dill, i have to have sea salt, cilantro, celery salt (blood mary's!!) parsley, garlic power & salt, onion power & salt. i would say these are the basics. if you are buying all new, i would HIGHLY recommend going to a spice shop. you will pay an arm and a leg if you buy the little bottles at the grocery store... i'm sure i'm forgetting a lot... hope that helps

  • Absolute NECESSITIES include Italian Seasoning, Sea Salt, Black pepper grinder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, poultry seasoning, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, sage, and I like to keep a jar of fajita seasoning handy too. These are the main spices in most recipes. You may also want some curry, chinese 5-spice, tarragon, thyme, rosemary, and dried cilantro too.

  • Sometimes all a dish needs is Mrs. Dash. They have several varieties now---spices can be expensive, so I'd just get a few basics, then add what you need when a recipe you'd like to try calls for them.
Get some seasoning salt like Johnny's, some garlic powder, onion salt, parsley flakes, chili powder, paprika and itallan seasoning. That will spice you up til you can get some more---but don't over do---spices do not keep forever so you don't want to waste money.
