Yesterday I did a little Christmas shopping with my 11-month-old. I know it might sound crazy, but it felt kind of weird to be buying presents in front of her. I want them all to be a surprise—especially the ones she gets from Santa.
I think I managed to buy a few things without her noticing—like these Crayola Fingerpaints. But there were some toys she definitely saw, so I feel like they lost their "specialness." The problem is I can't go shopping unless I take her with me.
Do you buy holiday presents from Santa in front of your kids? What age would you do this until?

This will be the only and last time I will do it. I think before the age of 2 it is ok, they arent going to remember what they dont see for weeks or months. Next year I wont because he will be 2 and will be able to remember.
My child is 7 months && I let him actually play with his presents && have rewrapped them now. LoLz. I know, I'm awful.
My baby is 11 months too! She doesn't really notice if i put in in the cart or back on the shelf so I think it i fine!
I do this with my baby (6 months) actually he went out with me on Black Friday, and he played with his presents while we shopped... He's 6 months old, he will for get about them b Christmas! However, I have to go Christmas shopping w/o my 2 year old.... this is the first year that I've had to.
Last year we didn't do Christmas until after Christmas *was in the hospital having my youngest* so my DH did the shopping while I was asleep. and then this year my oldest is 2 and it just wouldn't have worked. My DH was watching the kids while I was shopping on black friday!
My DD is 15 months and we shop with her she doesnt really know that we bought that or what for she forgets by the time we get home. I'll probaby shop with her next year too shell be 27 months. We will see though
my son is 17 and i will probaly take him when i hit the after xmas sales, but with a year in between seeing it and getting it- it probably won't matter ;-)
I did it the first 2 christmas's he was 1month and 1 yr at the time, but I didn't do it the year he turned 2 or this year because he would probably want the toy he sees in the cart.
Sometimes you might not have a choice.Mine were small.SOomy mom and dad took the older three and we took the baby with us.Mostly worked out. They went to a parade and my oldest was sick and so he stayed in the car and my middle one caught candy and my hubbys daughter just stood there.well later she up and told her dad that my parents bought my son a bag of candy and didn't give her any well us just say i was on the phone so fast i'd make your head spin cause i knew she was lying. My parents dont do that never have they either get for all or you dont get anything.well my dad was very upset to say the least.so she had to spoil what turn out to be a good time.

I did this all the time when my children were babies.
They had no clue, and while they may have seen the stuff, it didn't really "register".
When they got older and were not yet in school, I did a lot of internet shopping-and had it mailed to my parents!
