First Birthday: What Did You Give Your Baby?

I'm trying to decide what to get my baby for her first birthday. I was thinking of getting her something really special ... maybe a charm bracelet that I add to every year and give to her "again" on her 16th or 18th or 21st birthday. Or maybe a really nice bound leather photo album with pictures from her first year (if it's a gift maybe I'll force myself to sit down and put it together).

Or ... I'm not sure what else.

What did you give your baby for his first birthday? Did you go with a nice baby gift (toys, etc.)? Or did you do something extra special for the first one?

Any ideas are appreciated—I've got about a week to get it together!

Honestly, I don't remember for either of my oldest! However, if you want to do something special, write a letter. I never got around to doing it in the boys' baby books, but that is something lasting and meaningful.

clothes, toys, I got her a toy phone and computer because she always steals mine.  my mom got her a little pink horsey that is just the right size for her to sit on!!   My husband has a tradition where on her birth day her takes her to Build-a-Bear and makes a stufffed animal for her he did it at birth and her first b day and will continue to do so.  I mean she is too little to appreciate it but she sure loves her new teddy!!

My first was born on New Years eve, so she had two birthdays that year!!  I got her a 'baby coming' Christmas ornament, and then a Lenox-y=type music box the year she was born.  Her actual first birthday is kind of a blur now - we had so many people there to celebrate, and then stay for New Years eve.   But....her best was a surprise trip to Disney World when she turned 7 - the turn of the century!!!

I like any toy that is fun and educational. Discovery Toys are well made and serve both of these purposes.  ( I don't sell them)    If not walking well, the walking toy would be good. (riding toy)

I started something with my daughter of a collectible little ceramic bear. ( for every birthday )    Also put up pictures, from birth on up on the wall.  I did this every year, along with the birthday balloons. And saved something from the party theme.

TO make them feel special, for their birthday, even with the holidays, are important.     My birthday is 12/18, my brothers is 12/31, and of course Christmas inbetween.       We never had much money.  But not to mix it in with everything else going on.  My mom gave us the choice of food for supper for our birthday.

I'm addicted to Precious Moments.  On my daughters first birthday we started giving her the PM birthday train.  She gets one each year.
