I was listening to a radio program about traveling with babies, and one of the tips was to always bring a "copy" of your baby's comfort toy or blanket. The idea being, that if one got lost, you'd have another one on hand. Crisis averted. Baby never need know the truth. Ever since hearing that I've been on the lookout for an exact replica of my baby's chosen object of comfort. And not just for traveling. We could lose it any time, any where.
In the PLAYSKOOL Preschool Group, evaleesmom asked people to post photos of their little ones with their comfort items. The pictures are so sweet. There are blankies and stuffed toys and sweet faces.
There's a little boy in my daughter's music class who brings his comfort toy with him wherever he goes—it's his "guitar" (a.k.a. his mom's old hairbrush). It's so cute seeing him around town carrying it.
My baby loves her blankie. Kind of boring I know, but she adores it. She lights up when she sees it, and she burrows her face and body in it. I don't know when or how she chose this particular blanket among all her other belongings, but her decision has been made.
I searched high and low for months for the blanket, which was given to us by a friend, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Then, the other day Mr. Cafe Suzanne gave me an early Christmas present—he found it! Now the carbon copy is safely tucked away ... just in case.
What's your baby's comfort toy? How old was he when you knew the toy was "the one"? Do you have an "extra" one?
so Kylie just developed this a few days ago, and i find it weird....When i put her in the bath she is perfectly fine, and once she sees that washcloth she wants it! she will screm and wine and cry, so i have to give it to her!!! and then she screams until she has the remote control after bath time....haha
My son had a stuffed buzz lightyear toy that he had when he was 1... then he went to a plastic squeaky piglet toy. but the one that has stuck are the burp clothes... we used to have them when he was a puky baby he's 5 and he still has atleast one in bed.
His sister on the other hand has a "silkie" we are screwed if we lose it I can't find another one, i bought the first one on EBAY and have foiund some items that are similar but they are not the same!
My son loves his burping cloth! he's only 3 months now, so maybe it'll change. But now he grabs it and buries his face in it! and also he's teething so he sucks it to death .. L0L I saw that tiffrand's son is stuck on them too .. so we will see!
I am my son's favorite toy period. For comfort, playtime, bedtime, whatever. When he does get tired of me or realizes he has real toys, its this stuffed teddy bear. You shake and it sounds sightly like a rattle. Since he's teething he bites on and suck on the ears and legs alot.
My first son didn't have any. He likes to sleep with his stuffed animals, and sometimes he'll carry them out, but it changes which ones, and if they disappear, he could care less. But my second is in love with mini bowling pins of all things! He ALWAYS has to be holding one or two, uses them as pacifiers, goes insane if he can't find them - it's hilarious! http://albums.phanfare.com/6952074/3119870#imageID=55264493
My son 7 has a shark named "sharky" he has had it for about a year now and I can't find anymore online...yet.
My 4 yr old dd has a "blank" satin blanket we are definately screwed if we lose it!!
My 3 yr old dd has a baby doll, her hair is now so matty we call her "rasta doll", no backup, we are screwed here too if we lose it, none like this one out there!!!
My 2 yr old son has a "baby" a satin blanket and we do have a backup for him.
Awesome post/subject! I would definately recommend any moms out there that think they need to find a similar one for laundry day or even so they don't have to make a special trip to grandmas house to "google" for one! Also important that the sooner you find a similar the better! Once a child gets their "smell" or "feel" down, you may be in trouble so it is especially important to rotate the lovey!

My son had a Ernie doll that he carried every place with him and a monkey named Monk Monk. My daughter has nothing she has to have. She picks a different toy and blanket every day. She just does not seem to need a comfort item yet. Maybe it will change later on but for now, she has nothing!
