February is Library Lovers' Month, but that's not the only reason you should consider hitting your local library. The library is a great place to find free stuff for new moms and babies. Here's how I use it:
1. Free socializing for me. My library has a free support group once a month for new moms. Since I was new in town when my baby was born, it was a great way to meet other mothers with kids my daughter's age.
2. Free socializing for baby. Twice a week my library has a free mommy and me music class. My daughter loves hanging with the other tots. Last weekend they had a free puppet show.
3. Free parenting advice from the experts. The library is packed with all the latest, greatest books on parenting. You can get and read all of them (if you've got the time!) for free. They've also got free Internet so you can surf away, and free magazines (I like Parents, Parenting, Cookie, and a whole lot more).
4. Free educational and fun stuff for baby. I'm always taking out picture books, DVDs (they have the ones that teach baby sign language) and CDs (my baby loves music). The downside to this is my baby likes to rip and chew books—I've got to watch her every second when we're reading borrowed books.
5. Free classified advertising. My library and most libraries I've been in have a community board. It's a great place to find babysitters, postings for used baby gear, and mother's groups, and it's also a great place to put up signs for anything you're looking for or would like to sell.
Did I mention that all of that was free? Books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, Internet, music class, support group, etc. And these things are available all the time not just during the month of February.
In this economy, maybe they should make it Library Lover's Year!
Do you go to the library? What kinds of things do you use it for? What other ways are you trying to save money on baby stuff?

I love reading but I never hit up the library it sounds like a good Idea though I didn't know they had resources like that. I'm recently separated from my husband and living with my mom and trying to find something to save my sanity.
I would love to take my kids to our local Library, but I don't know if they do anything with it at this time of year. How can I find out?
yeah this is great if you don't work full time but when i get off ther5e is nothing going on not even a book club.
At our local libraries, most of the activities are beneficial to stay-at-home Moms, so they don't really work for me. Maybe once the summer rolls around I'll be able to do some rearranging so we can go...

I love the library and I utilize it a lot. We go to a lot of kid's play classes there. We've even gotten to know the librarians. I hope to work there someday when I go back to work.
