Does Your Mom Criticize Your Parenting?

does mom criticize your parenting

"I am a terrible mother—at least according to my mother," WifeyandMommy89 wrote in the CafeMom Newcomers Club. She's trying to wean her 16-month-old son off the bottle so she put him in his crib at nap time without it—he cried for about 20 minutes and then went to sleep for his usual 2 hours. "The entire time he was crying, I heard my mother saying to my sister, 'I don't think he's ready, she's forcing him to grow up too fast. I won't make him sleep without it.'"

WifeyandMommy89 solved that by throwing all the baby bottles away. Her attitude is, "He's not yours, he's mine," and it makes her angry that her mom would go against her wishes with her son.

I know exactly how she feels. My mom has been a great help to me with my baby, but she's always making little remarks about they way I do things and how I should be doing them and how she used to do them. I know she loves my baby more than anything in the world and I know she has her granddaughter's best interests in mind. But so do I. After all, I'm her mom.

Does your mother try to tell you "the best way" to raise your baby? How do you handle it?

Shoot my mom will flat out tell me she doesn't agree with the way I'm raising my DD.  I mean organic food is sooo bad for you!  LOL.

i could write a book on the things my mom has said to me about my parenting skills or lack there of according to her.. and the fact that she just told me that i dont need to have anymore kids after this one im preggo with is born... or the fact that she doesnt think my relationship is going to last... etc etc etc... ughhh so irritating.. i just wrote a blog on my myspace telling her to mind her own damn business, bc they are MY kids not anyone else's..

auror...

Yes but she does it in the worst way...the passive aggressive way.  The "Hmm...I wouldn't do that, I don't see how on earth that could possibly be good but I'm not criticizing you!" type of way.

She's on CM though so I better shut up.  If you happen to see this I love you anyways mom. ;)

My mom does all the time and I just say "uh huh" and go about my business. Usually its over the phone since she lives 2 hours away. She stayed here one weekend and I told her that he goes by the same routine every day and what he likes & how he likes it and she just rolled her eyes at me. Ugh!

My mom has never learned how to let go of her own children...maybe only me. What I mean is continuing to keep your kids constantly under your thumb even when they have grown. I mean, she treats me as if I don't know what's best for my own children and as a result, I barely call her and when it comes to bringing the grand-kids, it's rare since she also claims to be busy though my sister's children see her and my father far more than ours and they live about the same distance away. I know it sounds like jealousy but, it's actually despising favoritism and being treated differently. The layers of the onion keep on going, I tell you! LOL!

No thank god. She thinks, "I had my chance to raise my own. It's her turn now." She chuckles at me when I tell her stuff that my daughter has done, in a "payback's a b" sort of way though.

We did have a problem with weaning at first, but now my mom respects my choice to let my child decide.

Aurorabunny, lmao!

But my mom doesn't critcize me. When I'm doing something she doesn't like, she tells me lmao. If I think she has a valid point, I change. If not, oh well.
