Carrying my babies up and down our slippery wooden stairway was always one of my biggest new mom fears. There were a couple of near misses, but we made it to toddlerhood unscathed. I'm making up for it now. Just the other day, I sledded down the last few treads on my butt. I'm just so klutzy.
natalies_mama's husband did fall down the stairs the other day with their 2 1/2 month old daughter. Their stairs are carpeted but narrow, and her husband is tall. Every time he ventures down with the baby, she holds her breath and listens.
The other night, that ended with tumbling and her husband crying out.

The moms in Stay at Home Moms are talking about their scariest moments as parents, things that made them stronger as a family and ever grateful for their children. I can't believe some of the things CafeMoms have gone through ...
-- When I was pregnant I was sitting in standstill traffic and someone came flying off of an exit ramp and hit me going 60 mph. I was in the hospital for a few days but luckily they didn't have to take her early.
-- After I had my son he wasn't breathing and it took them about two minutes to get him to start. It was complete TORTURE!!

Older siblings tend to show their "feelings" for the new baby differently.
I had a very unique way of expressing myself when my brother, five years younger, was born. I grabbed the hardest object I could find, which just so happened to be the detached metal scope from my father's hunting rifle, lying innocently in the junk drawer, go figure.
Then I proceeded into the room where the baby was sleeping in a pack 'n' play and bonked him on the head with it. Apparently not very hard because he was fine, and not even a fraction as hard as the wooden spoon that batted my hide when my mom discovered what I had done.

CafeMoms have been buzzing about the 6 month old baby who miraculously survived being hit by a train after his stroller rolled off the platform in Melbourne, Australia. OMG what a nightmare. You can see a video of the baby stroller falling onto the train tracks on CNN.
It practically gave me a heart attack watching the mom's reaction. She watched as the stroller slide off the platform into the tracks, saw the train cover the carriage. I knew the baby was okay before I watched it, or I never would have. It seems as though the train rolled right over the stroller, which was in the center of the tracks, leaving the infant shaken but practically unharmed except for a bump on his head.
You can call her a horrible mom, but I'll bet she's just a typical overwhelmed distracted mom. Like me. Careless accidents happen to the best people, that's why they are called accidents.

The following is a guest post by Ideal Bite's Mama Bite Editor Alison Neumer Lara.
Our house has dark wood floors that show every little speck of dust, but that's not why we made the decision to go shoeless at home. The real instigator was my one-year-old daughter Roxie...the moment she decided to start licking the floor. I know, that's what babies do (a pretty logical way to figure out the world actually), and kids do need to be exposed to some germs to build their immune systems, but come on. Some cleaning precautions are good.

We've all done it: The baby falls asleep in the car and you don't want to wake him so you bring the car seat into the house and let him sleep. I did this all the time with my daughter! But new research shows that letting your baby sleep in a car seat isn't a good—or safe—idea. While there's no doubt that using a car safety seat can save your baby's life in the car, car seats should never be used as cribs or sleeping devices outside of your automobile. Here's why.
