There's a new study on twins .... but before I tell you any more, let me first say that this news should in no way panic moms expecting twins in which one or both babies are boys. That's the doctor who did the research himself talking, not me.
But I found this report sort of interesting in terms of the famed "boy disadvantage" we've heard about.
What's the "boy disadvantage"?
Well, it means singleton boys are more likely than girls to be born prematurely, need a cesarean delivery, or have newborn health problems. That's all well known.
And the latest study published in the nation's top gynecological journal suggests that having a male twin may also raise the odds of complications, according to Reuters.

A friend of mine just told me that our thirty-something-ish former co-worker, L., is pregnant with twins adding, "and they're not IVF twins!" I'm sure this is the way the story was told to her because my friend did IVF herself and wouldn't have cared a whit how our old co-worker got pregnant. Hmm, I wonder: Does L. feel inclined to tell everyone she knows that she conceived her awesome twosome the old-fashioned rather than the new-fangled way? And if so, why?

How cute are these infant twins all doubled up in a Moby Wrap baby carrier? Hee hee.
Seems like it could be a lifesaver for newborn twins. Here's how it works and only as long as mama's back can take it, I imagine.

Hi, Cafe Kierna here!
A woman in Dallas, Texas knew there was something very different about her 11-month old fraternal twins Justin and Jordan--and was she ever right. She took her boys to a DNA lab and learned they have different fathers!

New mom Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston, the father of her 3-month-old son Tripp, broke up. Bristol told the press she is "devastated." — Momlogic
Tell me, did you see this coming or did you think this relationship would last? How do you think she'll do as a single mom with a baby?

I know I've said it before, but I've always wanted twins. That's why I'm thinking about moving. To Brazil. There's a little farming town there that has an unusually high concentration of twins—right now there are 38 sets of twins among the 80 families that live in a one-and-a-half square-mile area.

Should you have to be
rich to have kids?
By now you probably know that Nadya Sulman, the 33-year-old California woman who gave birth to octuplets, is single and unemployed. She lives with her parents, and she underwent fertility treatments to get pregnant. In addition to the eight babies she had last week (and plans to breastfeed), she has six other kids ages 2 to 7. But Sulman has big plans.

Does having two make you a better person?
Twins run in my family. My mother's sisters are twins, and there are so many sets of twins on my dad's side (both fraternal and identical) that I can't count them. I always dreamed of the day that my twins would be in the big twin photo that we take at our family reunion. The problem is, as much as I wanted to, I didn't have twins. And apparently they are a real status symbol these days. Angelina has them and so does J-Lo—Cafe Kristen has them too (and she's super cool!). But a lot of other women want twins for reasons that seem, well, kind of shallow.
