A scene from my retro party. Want to swap these clothes?
While partaking in the week-long celebration for CafeMom's 2nd birthday with my virtual cocktail and favorite SweetPea, it got me thinking about parties. We all love 'em!
I just had a retro party for my birthday thanks to Cafe Kim's suggestions. But in keeping with the theme of "two" and "party" why not have a bash when you bring clothes you haven't worn in two years for a swap with your friends? Everyone will leave with a gift!
Leave the kid's clothes at home...this party is all about swapping styles for you and your lady friends.
Here are some great guidelines to host a swap party:
For more party guidelines, this piece on how to hold a fashion swap party has some helpful information.
If you do have children's clothes to swaps for kids, you may want to look into joining the private group Baby/Kid Clothing Pool and reading Cafe Cynthia's blog on item swaps for toddlers. There's also a private group called Deals & Steals Swap Station.
What do you think? Ready for a fashion swap? My favorite SweetPea sure is!

This works really good for large groups of people too... whole dorms.. churches.. whatever! We did one with over 300 women in high school, we set up in the gym and charged $5.00 entry.. then everyone brings clothes and they get a ticket for each thing.. so if they brought 3 pairs of pants and 2 shirts.. they got 3 pant tickets and 2 shirt tickets. The entry fee was donated to the school, and everyone went home with loads of great new clothes! We raised $1400.00 for the school after buying supplies (snacks, rolls of tickets, drinks) it was very cool.
ps... shoes were the biggest hit! I dont think there was a single pair of shoes left at the end of the night to donate!!
I love this idea I have a group of cafemom who meet up in grand rapids michigan. I will forward this idea to them and see if I can't get them moviated to clean there closets.

I love this... we did this one Ramadan, I swapted 5 items and got a really nice Jilbab 9Islamic dress for my daughter Yasmine. Beautiful Blue (dif shades), and it was beaded all down the front from neck to the bottom and across the edge of the sleaves.... just beautiful work.
