I love that there was an overwhelmingly positive response to bestmommyeber's decision to dye the tips of her hair pink. But how do you all feel about tattoos?
I personally think they are beautiful -- I have a lot of them. Kids love to look and ask about them. That's me and my husband in the photo -- we got matching ones.
But not all responses I've gotten about my tattoos have been positive.
Many years ago while I was still in college and waiting tables, the one on my wrist was slightly visible even though I was wearing a long sleeve shirt. A customer said, "Why did you ruin yourself like that?" I stayed calm and just responded with a smile, "I like it." Then he joked, "You know your kids are going to be born with tattoos." Strange comment, but I just smiled again. I wanted to say more, but I was working to pay for college!
During a diversity event at a former job, one woman even went as far to say that my tattoos were a form of diversity. I studied and worked with students on multi-culturalism in the classroom -- we didn't discuss tattoos.
Tattoos seems to bring out the best and worst in people -- I've seen it firsthand. Strangers feel like they can touch your tattoos, others will judge and think a woman with tattoos is... well, not a lady. But I wear them proudly -- anyone who knows me knows who I am and what I am about. Tattoos are a part of my style.
I know dying your hair pink isn't permanent, and tattoos are, but shouldn't the same rules apply?
CafeMom has some great tattooed mom groups:
I love my tattoos! I taught at vacation bible school last summer, and not only did I see 5 other teaches in my age group (the 4-5 year olds) some of the moms had them too. In fact one of the kids told me her mommy has a tattoo like mine, so she LOVED it. Its not ruining out skin...they are a beautiful form of expression. My tattooos may be small but they each have a meaning to me...so anyone who thinks I have "ruined myself" can kiss my butt....
I see nothing wrong with tattoos,I don't have one myself. But,Its Because I'm to chicken to get one,I have always wanted one on my lower back! Maybe someday!!!
I LOVE tattoos! I have four so far. I would like to get another one this year. I am waiting for my hubby to figure out what he wants for his first one... That's right, I corrupted him ;)
I can't say I "LOVE" them...yet. I have plans to get one, and it will be honoring my children. I don't care if a woman has tattoos, it's her choice and no one should judge her on that choice.
i have 4 tattoos and im not done. im going in about a month to get more. they're just a way to express yourself.
I have 3 right now and plan on at least 5 more. I love my tats and anyone judging me on them is in the wrong!
I have 6 and plan to get another one this year...Like everyone else they have special meanings to me and I can't wait for my dd to get older and ask me what they are and why...![]()
I only have one but it has speicial meaning to it. It kind of tells an important story about who I am and it's a sweet little reminder of that for me. Kind of like a good luck charm I can't loose. I don't regret getting it at all. I've had it for nearly 15 years now.
