How to Wear a Headscarf in the Summer

summer survival guide

I love wearing scarfs as headbands in the summer! They're great for keeping hair back and out your face on those hot days, and they do wonders for a bad hair day.

To get this cute look you can either buy a headband hair scarf like this one from Garlands Of Grace on Etsy.com ($10.99). Or you can make your own using a light, summery square scarf. Here's how to do it:

  1. Style hair as desired—up or down is fine (mine is usually in a tangled ponytail/bun mess).
  2. Fold square into a triangle.
  3. Roll scarf from long edge of triangle end towards the tip of the triangle so it becomes a long thick rectangular band. Vary thickness of the band depending on the day: If it's a bad hair day, I usually go for as thick as possible so most of my hair is covered.
  4. Place center of band at forehead.
  5. Tie a knot under hair at the nape of neck.

How do you wear hair scarfs in the summer?

thanks for the info. i am always looking for new ways to fold scrafs. i sell jewelry for a direct sales company and use scrafs as a door prize and like  to show new ways to wear them. there is a great way to fold one into a small purse.

use a 22in square scarf and two bangles

step one

;ay the scarf face up. slip two adjacent corners through a bangle from the front and pull the ends out to opposite sides

step two

wrap the corners around t the front of the bangle and tie the corners in a square knot.

repeat steps 1 &2 with the otherside of the scarf and second bangle. tuck billows inward and pull on the scarf to "inflate it".

I usually wear mine that way. I have long thick hair, so anything that helps keep it up and out of my face is awesome :) its great to wear at the beach too!

auror...

Head scarfs are so cute and I'm jealous of anyone who can pull them off.  My hair is too flat and my head is too small...when I wear them they just slide off the back of my head and I look like a messed up pirate.

Same here, aurorabunny.  I wish they stayed on.

Have you tried securing it with hair pins? I have to use a bunch to make my head scarf stay in place...

I usually just go for bandana's and braided pigtails. easy and keeps hair in place no matter humidity or car windows down or riding the bike
