How Often Do You Wash Your Hair?

August 24, 2009 at 7:51 AM by Cafe Kim - Comments (8)

how often do you wash your hairI know you're not supposed to wash your hair every day—because daily washing can strip your hair of its natural oils. But my hair gets really greasy if I don't, especially now that I'm sporting short bangs.

Just the other day at the grocery store, the cashier looked at me and said, "Oh, I didn't realize it was raining outside."

Yeah, definitely no rain in sight; in fact, it was a cloudless, sun-shiny day. That was just a case of my hair's grease working overtime...gross, right?

So, in an effort to not confuse people I come into contact with about the weather, I resumed daily hair washing. But I'm concerned that this is causing my hair to be dry, brittle, and a little flat. Do you know what I mean?

If I'm going to keep this up, I should probably try a daily shampoo like Kiehl's All Sport Every Day Shampoo ($15.50), or Shikai Natural Everyday Shampoo ($6.49 from Drugstore.com). Someone even told me that baby shampoo would be good for daily washing because it's so mild.

It sounds like your body's trying to keep your hair healthy despite your washings.  You have really oily hair because shampoo dries hair out and conditioner isn't as wonderful as we all like to think.  Granted, you don't have to go no-poo, nor do you have to use natural shampoos and conditioners.  All you REALLY need to do is give your hair and scalp a detoxing period.  Let your body push all the oil it wants out onto your scalp and try to not wash your hair but once or twice a week.  After about a month (it sounds awful, I know) it will slow down it's production and you'll survive with washing your hair every other day or every two days.

I wash my hair twice a week.  I ALWAYS had oily hair growing up, I'd wash it in the morning and it'd be disgusting by the time I went to bed.  I realized what was going on and now I don't have to wash my hair often at all.  : D

if you go a couple times without washing it you will be fine but of course this is just another advertisement. baby hair actually strips your hair but only a good hairdresser with a lot of training and experience under their belt would tell you that.

like 2 times a week. i have read that if your hair is looking greasy sprinkle a little baby powder in there to soak up the grease.

I have naturally curly hair that I blow dry and flat iron straight.  When I'm wearing it curly (especially in the summer) I wash and condition it everyday or every other day to wash out the hair products from my hair.  But when I wear it straight I wash it every 2 days.  My hair would die with out hair conditioner!

I still have really oily hair. It's a nightmare trying to take care of it. I use all different kinds of shampoos, and none of the ones that I've tried up to this point have helped with the oil. It really does look like it's raining outside when I go without washing my hair for a day. It gets really stringy and nasty looking.

I am trying to go every other day, or even every third day (if I wet it in the shower and blow it out sometimes I can get away with another day)- its working OK for now, but only because I am a SAHM and so people don't have to see my hair every day. When I worked full time and I worked in a business where my appearances mattered (I was a teller and we needed to look clean and professional) I had to wash my long hair every day or else it fell flat and looked greasy.

I wash mine everyday or every other day. (it depends) I would suggest maybe washing your hair every other day but washing your bangs in the sink on the days that you don't wash your hair so they look less greasy. And the baby powder trick works but you just have to blend well so it doesn't look like you used baby powder in it.

Every 3 or 4 days. They have a spray that is used for between washes, that helps it to not be so oily. It can be found at your local beauty store.
