How Do You Wear Headbands?

I live in NYC and the headband is one of those accessories that has made a comeback on the cool kids that go out to clubs and party until after closing time. Of course that doesn't mean lil ole me can't wear one. And I have.
I love them to dress up an outfit -- I wore one at my wedding and also to a friend's wedding recently.
But it's not just if you wear them, it's how you wear a headband.
There are two ways -- on your head or across your forehead.
The on your head way can make the look seem like 50s retro pinup or even good girl Sandra Dee style.
If wearing it across your head, it can be hippie style or in the case here in NYC, hipster style.
For Halloween last year I had a 70s theme party and wore a feathered headband across my forehead (photo above). I've never worn this look for the everyday, but I have seen others in it and it usually looks really cute.
What do you think of headbands? Do you prefer them on your head or across your forehead?

I don't wear them b/c they make me look younger and since I am 25 I don't want to look younger (yet). When I mean they make me look younger I still have freckles on my face and braces too. LOL
I don't wear handbands because my hair is too thick and the always feel like it's going to fall off.

I've never worn those stretchy kinds. My girls have a bunch of them and I always thought it was cute, although wrong, when my 3yo would put them across her forehead. I guess she was just on the edge of fashion or something.
I prefer to wear a bandana in my hair...very retro. Reminds me of my mom who dressed like that in the 70s (and when I was little).
I think it maybe my lack of fashion know how, but I just can't sport the headband and make it look good.
But I do like the look. Just not on me.
I wear them both ways but only certain headbands can be worn on the forehead. I also wear the headbands that have the long ribbon on the back that gets tied into a bow at the bottom. I think it dresses a regular headband up a lot.
I love the headband look...it's so cute. Like summer camp in the 80's. Also love the tights with shorts. Like 1992. Haven't rocked either yet...too conservative I guess. Or maybe it's because I still have memories of doing both the first time around..hmmm..

I love headbands!!! I wear mine on the head though.
