For all the moms who are going nuts about the insane amount of time their teens spend on the Internet on social networking sites like Myspace, you can exhale now. Why? A new MacAuthur Foundation study, "Living and Learning With New Media" found that these teens are actually getting ahead of the new media curve.
Mizuko Ito, lead researcher on the study, said this in the New York Times: “Their participation is giving them the technological skills and literacy they need to succeed in the contemporary world. They’re learning how to get along with others, how to manage a public identity, how to create a home page.”
In
actuality, these are the very skills our children need to make it in
the future work world. So moms, provided you have good security on your
computer to protect your kids from predators and porn, you can stop worrying. In fact, Johnny, get in here and get online!
Are your kids computer savvy?
