It seems like every Thanksgiving holiday the news reports a sad story about a house fire taking property and lives. This year was no different; one Georgia mother, her three children and one-month-old niece, barely escaped with their lives after a kitchen fire quickly spread throughout her house and destroyed everything.
The woman reportedly said that what scared her most is that she couldn't wake her children up. Can you imagine?! I don't know if she had a working smoke detector or not (when triggered they are pretty hard to ignore), but I know how easy it is to forget to change the batteries and replace the alarm every so often. So no excuses, if you read this, you've been reminded.
You can get battery operated ones for like $10 a piece. There is absolutely no reason not to have one in every room of the house. If you have a crappy landlord, go buy them yourselves. Your family's life is at stake!
Our apartment complex comes around and checks ours quarterly, plus we commit in our lease to check them monthly. It's easy!
If your landlord doesn't get them, buy them yourself and ask him to reimburse you! Even if he won't, at least your family is safe.
We had a fire back in October and we were not home. It was in the middle of the day. The smoke detectors that people have do not do anything but prevent people from dying ONLY IF they are there. What if noone is home? Youre house burns down to the ground and you lose EVERYTHING. I have an alarm system through Slomins Alarm that as soon as it detects smoke, it alerts the local fire department and whether you are home or not, the fire company comes. Our house was saved. We would have lost everything had it not been for Slomins. We would have come home to ashes on the ground and every picture, every memory of me and my childrens and husbands life would have been lost forever. Not bad for $25.00 a month! Do yourselves a favor- call Slomins' Alarm at 1-800-ALARMME and tell them Brandy Mason referred you and that I am a customer with them. I came home to slight soot damage and firemen who had already done their job. Slomins called me and let me know what was going on so I could go home and take care of business.

Yes, it's illegal for you not too and if something tragic were to happen you could be charged with involuntary manslaughter in my state.
