FDLS Girls Were Sexually Abused

December 27, 2008 at 2:50 PM by Cafe Kierna - Comments (20)

Remember the raid on the Texas FDLS  compound (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) back in April of this year?  Authorities literally swooped down, wrangled and then removed over 250 kids from the compound because of mounting accusations of child sexual abuse and neglect.

Days ago, according to an Associated Press report, the state's suspicions were confirmed. A dozen girls were sexually abused at a polygamist group's ranch and parents neglected more than 250 other children living there by doing nothing to protect them from becoming future victims.

The Department of Family and Protective Services concluded there was evidence that 12 girls, ages 12 to 15, were "spiritually" married to adult men in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Seven of them had one or more children.

Do you believe the State was ultimately in the right to raid this compound?

Yes, they were in the right to raid the compound. They should have permenantly removed the children.

Yep, something needs to be done. I am glad they did it.

yep it's gross and those men in that group should be castrated and then sexually abused themselves.

i was totally shocked and disappointed when the court overturned the decision and sent all those poor kids back into that environment!

Yes-freedom of religion does not =freedom to rape children and commit crimes and call it "God".

Yes, but the way that they went about it was wrong. Ripping nursing infants from their mothers arms was a bit excessive.

Harmo...

I do not think that ripping nursing infants from their mothers arms was too excessive by any means in that situation. When accusations of rape or abuse are made, there needs to be immediate action! Shame on those mothers for allowing such a thing to happen. I know that a lot of the mothers were raised to believe this sort of lifestyle was ok, but come on. Any person knows that a 12 year old is not in a frame of mind to be making adult decisions such as sexual relations, let alone "spirtual marraiges." Shame on those pedifiles, and shame on the state for allowing the children to return until the investigation was complete. I know they had their hands tied and all, but I would have faught harder if I were their social worker.

I really wish it would have been prudent to investigate first, then take abused kids out, but the only way to get at that sort of evidence and punish the abusers is to act fast. I feel sorry for the good families that got hurt by the raid, but the first duty of a parent is to protect their child from undue harm (that is, there's a line between regular hurts like scrapes and break-ups and making children agree to marry elders). I can only hope the good families do understand why this needed to be done and it has nothing to do with their religion. If this was simply a matter of consensual ADULTS deciding to group together, I would have been outraged, but there are children that have been wrongly hurt and they deserve justice.

I think if anything illegal is happening behind closed doors, the gov't still has the right to go in and put an end to it. Why do these FDLS people get to live above the law just because they have a "compound"?

Honestly it's not so black and white as people make it out to be , I  felt bad for the mother's of the children that were sexually abuse as well as the children for the simple fact women have no rights in that type of community if the child was sent to be some pervs spiritual wife the mother of that child is powerless to do anything against them. They are treated like cattle ,property to be owned. If the "profit " or prophet wanted 13 yr old Elise to be wife 59 yr old Elder so -n -so nothing could be done about it by either one of the parents but especially the mother . Plus everyone was brainwashed  to believe this " Warren Jeffs " character was actual prophet to go against him meant you eternal soul was in jeopardy.  Even some of the men were powerless , if you pissed off the profit in some way your family could be taken from you and given to another man . It's scary that this is happen in our country but even if you put all those men in jail some one else is itching to take their place  . What can be done that wouldn't damage ever one involved ?banging head into wall
