Kids and Underappreciated X-mas Gifts

christmas, gifts, scooter

availiable at amazon

Not ready to give up on the new scooter altogether. But I certainly expected a bit more enthusiasm than it's gotten. We bought the scooter for my 5-year-old for Christmas because we just knew it would be a hit.

Lots of children at my son's school breeze by in the mornings, geared up and ready for class. While I didn't think he'd be like those kids (we drive to school a distance and it's cold here), I just assumed his natural interest in the shiny scooter would at least have him riding around in the house until I had to scream, "Get off that thing!"

I wish. The poor little scooter is just leaning up against a wall, waiting for a friend. Maybe it'll get lucky in the spring.

Are you children loving their X-mas gifts? Are they dusty? Or already broken? LOL!

dstei...

It's weird to me that my daughter is enjoying the sack of 20 happy meal toys that "santa" brought more than the drumset.  Go figure.

Eeyor...

My girls are still playing with everything they recieved for Christmas, even the toys they got two years ago, lol. They have Littlest Pet Shop Houses and animals, and The Mrs. Goodbee Dollhouse we got from Cafemom, and those types of things they love because every birthday and Christmas, we add to their collection. The entire lot is new again with a five dollar add on.

My Step Sons on the other hand, everything they wanted was 100-200 dollars a piece or more, and that is something we could not afford, so we opted for the classics. I had Tech Decks when I was younger and loved playing with them, we got some for the boys, they played with them for a half hour, and they are already on their dresser long forgotten. They are nine, six, and five years old, and had the nerve to ask dad "Is that ALL you got us for Christmas?" Needless to say I was a very unhappy stepmom. I am glad we didn't have any money for Christmas this year, because my husband would have put us in debt to get them what they really wanted, and this is how they are with everything they have. I love them to no end, but they are very lucky they are not my biokids, things would be different. UGH.

I bought my 4 year old a scooter, and he is done with it. I think it is mostly just frustating because he is only 4 and doesn't go very fast so he gets mad when his sister is riding her bike faster.

Norah...

It never fails that I have a great idea of what my kids will want and and it seems I should have waited a year. By the following xmas it is their favorite toy.

I can understand it.... but................, You kinda have to be Intouch, with what 'your child wants'.... not what you 'think' your child wants.......  this goes for some of the other posts not just yours.....  -- I mean if your going to spend the money, get what they want.....  Scooters don't go over so well especially in the WINTER time....., and the only one's that were even a little exciting were the motorized one's.... but 5's to young for that.......  --  I'm a Great Gift Giver, I'm a Giver in General.. I always get it right, but I get what they really wanted... too....... (Some Mom's suck at gift giving and I don't get it).... Again, not just about your post.... in general...

We gave DD a pony ~ She is 5 ~ She loves him. I'm impressed by the fact that she wants to ride him every day and when she's not she goes out and brushes him.  The boys got the BMX trick bikes and they ride pretty much daily. They also have elect Razor scooters  and they ride those mostly on the weekend. Wii gets used on rainy/snowy days.

My kids give me a list, and I don't start shopping until they've had a chance to change it at least three times which is inevitable. Also, my kids know that if something isn't right, I want to return it. I want to know that they are thrilled with everything they get, then I know it will be more than a dust collector.
