I posted yesterday about Mattel's Twilight Barbie and Ken Dolls due out in November, but the more I think about this, the more confused I become. Toys "R" Us says the recommended age for the Bella and Edward Cullen dolls are 6 and 7...but are 6- and 7-year-olds even interested in Twilight?
I find this frightening on so many levels—most of all because I finished New Moon two nights ago, and I found the book terrifying with all the werewolves and vampires running around. Seriously, I had nightmares about it. And I'm an adult woman! I can only imagine how scared a 6-year-old would be...
The debate about what age is appropriate for Twilight is nothing new on CafeMom. But Twilight DOLLS targeted to 6- and 7-year-olds may be taking this conversation to a whole different level.
What do you think? Would your 6- or 7-year-old want a Twilight doll?

I agree, Twilight is for teens and older. I think the whole age recommendation means that it's NOT recommended for under age 6, not necessarily that it's made for ages 6 and 7. That's how I view it. I dunno though. Weird that they would market it for children and not teens. But I don't know many teens that would want Edward and Bella Barbies...I know my 15 yo neice wouldn't.
This is the age they are considered "safe" for (because of small parts etc)...not necessarily the age that will be interested. Just the same with toys marked 18months+ they may not play with them until after they're 2...but they're "safe" at 18 months. Do the people who make them really think that 6 year olds will want them? NO...but they will sell.
P.S. I don't always think regular barbies are appropriate....these dolls are collectors items...that's all. Twilight is not the first franchise to group with Barbie. Does a 6 year old really want an "I Love Lucy" barbie. Please~stop making it into something it's not.
My 6 year old would want one only because it's a Barbie. I am a fan myself of the Twilight story but there really is no need for dolls (IMO). Because people are gonna think it's OK for a 6-7 year old to watch the movie which is WAY too mature for that age group. Sure people are going to collect them but it does seem that they are going too young. P.S. My 20 year old cousin has been collecting I Love Lucy Barbies since she was 5 years old.
Here's a thought that I'm probably terrible for saying aloud. . .
Am I the only one who thinks that for once the doll is waaaaaaay prettier than the woman it's modeled after?

No my 7 year old daughter would never want one. She don't even like barbie dolls much less HSM or Hannah Montana dolls. But i personally think that is to young of a age group to target them at.
