Cop Tasers 11-Year-Old With Mom's Permission

taser gunThere've been times when I've had the urge to use a taser on my son. Oh, have there.

Like last night when I told him to go to his room after he batted his sister in the head with a light saber and he matter-of-factly said, "No. No, thank you, not happening," cloaked in that irritating 6 year old attitude of his ...

But I can't imagine I would ever really do that ... or even ask a police officer to!

An Arkansas mom did!

Last week, on Veteran's Day, she called police after her 11 year old daughter refused to take a shower. She gave the responding officer permission to "tase" the unruly girl if necessary, according to a report in the Huffington Post.

The officer did tase the 11 year old girl -- a quick pop on her back -- but only after the girl kicked him in the groin when he tried to take her into custody.

Now the cop is in big trouble, not for tasing the girl but for not having a video camera attached to the taser when he did it. Some departmental rule, I guess, but perhaps it happened so fast he didn't have time. Now he's suspended for seven days without pay.

Police say tasers are a safe way to subdue people who are a danger to themselves or others. Would you ever give permission to use a taser on your child if they were a real danger?

There has to be more to this story.  I mean, who the heck calls the police because your child won't shower?  This mom has obviously lost control & from 11 to 18 its a downhill slide most times anyway...Parents IN control barely hang on to that control.  WOW - I bet we hear more about this family in the future.

I'm confused.... why did the mom call the police?  And what on earth did an eleven year old do to require being taken into custody?  There has to be something more going on here!

I agree with them.  The mom is an IDIOT, and the cop should have told her to handle her own fucking child.

I would allow a policeman to tase my child if they were doing something that warranted it. However, for not showering and being defiant? NO! And no cop that I know  of would do that! (And I know a few...my dad is a retired cop, my FIL is a cop and my husband in in school to become one...) If the child had robbed someone and was running: TASE THEM! If they assault the officer, like the girl did: TASE THEM. If they are being defiant to Mommy: Tell the mom to put her big girl panties on and BE A PARENT! Spank said daughter and give her a bath yourself, toddler style.

auror...

11 year olds are mean little buggers.  I would have let her skip her shower and go to school stinky.  After getting made fun of all day that problem probably would have resolved itself.

What aurorabunny said.  Everyone but the child is in the wrong here.  She's a child and I think I'd have kicked a cop in the balls for trying to arrest me for not wanting a shower, too!

I dunno...if this 10 yr. old had enough sense to kick a grown man in his nads.... I'm thinking there's a lot more to the story then an evil old mom who wants to physically assault little innocent miss something. What cases would a parent actually need to call the police for their daughter skipping  oneshower anyways? Only two I can figure in. Either the mother wanted to intimidate her daughter and said the tazing bit as an empty threat she never meant to ever materialize, or this girl has some serious issues with discipline.

Whatever the case, they are all to blame. The daughter, while maybe she shouldn't be punished for taking a shower did assault an officer in away that could inflict some serious harm, the mother for reaching a situation where a police officer was called to the residence, and the police officer for not following protocol in reference to the camera.

I do think that tasering is way overused and that police have had really bad judgement in WHEN to tase (the man who was holding an infant in the hospital), so I would like to see some serious reform there before committing to allowing my child to be tasered if they were considered a 'real danger'.

This whole story is so UNBELIEVABLE. How much worse can CHILD ABUSE get?  The long term Effects this is going to have on this Child, OMG. I would have done more than just KICK this SOB in the balls, & the Mother how much more PATHETIC CAN A MOTHER BE. I don't care how out of hand a Child gets, there is usually a reason for her behavior, MAYBE  YOU THINK IT COULD BE BECAUSE THE LEACH WHO IS CALLING HERSELF A MOTHER, COULD HAVE EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THIS LITTLE GIRL BEING & ACTING THE WAYS SHE IS? BOTH ADULTS NEED TO BE JAILED & CHARGED. THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL A PUNK COP WHO IS GIVING LAW ENFORCEMENT A REALLY REALLY BAD NAME. THEY SHOULD BOTH BE ASHAMED ENOUGH NOT TO EVER WANT TO SHOW THEIR FACES IN PUBLIC EVER AGAIN.
