Who knows when "Happy Holidays" first became the "PC" thing to say at this time of year, but I for one, am glad about it. Although most Americans celebrate Christmas, the winter holiday season actually includes several social and religious traditions. It's lovely to send warm holiday wishes, but it's respectful to consider that not everyone celebrates the same thing, the same way. One of the most important things we can teach our children is tolerance for difference.

It's bizarre how much of our happiness is connected to money. Even though we all know to count our blessings, relish our health, and appreciate every day with our families, still, somehow empty pockets gets us down. During the holidays--what's supposed to be a time of joy--these depressed feelings are often intensified. Sometimes it just helps to get some perspective by talking about it with friends.

A few days ago in Christmas shopping desperation I posted, "What to get the teacher?" Many of you chimed in, and a few teacher mommies even lent their voices. Gift cards! you said. I got it. Off to Barnes and Noble for our lovely teacher's gift. No stress, no problem.
