But lots of moms have anxiety about their kids getting injured on thrill rides or lost in the crowd. Take note of the following helpful theme park safety tips to make sure your family's visit is fun and stress-free.

Keeping Track of Kids in a Crowd:

  • Dress kids in colorful, distinctive outfits that are easy to describe in case they get lost.
  • Have a plan. Designate a easy-to-spot meeting place—for example, the ferris wheel—in case you get separated.
  • Take current photos of your children along with you in case they get separated.
  • Point out amusement park employees, officials, and other staff so your kids know exactly who to go to if they need help.
  • Review your "stranger-danger rules" with your children before you arrive.

Stay Cool and Comfortable:

  • Apply waterproof sunscreen before entering the park and reapply often throughout the day. Don't forget a hat and sunglasses.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. If the park allows it, bring a water bottle to refill from drinking fountains so you don't have to spend a lot of money on bottled water at food stands.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Most sandals don't offer enough support for a full-day of walking.
  • Know your health and your kids' health. Many rides have rules prohibiting people with certain health conditions from riding. For example, pregnant women or people with heart conditions may not be allowed on some rides. Many accidents at amusement parks occur from undiagnosed health conditions—be sure you are a aware of your family's health conditions before your visit.
  • Kids get tired. Know their limits, and consider taking a mid-day break to rejuvenate your family.

Staying Safe on Rides:

  • Be sure your children meet the age and height requirements of each ride.
  • Follow the rules of the ride. Teach your kids to stay seated and keep their arms and legs inside the car at all times.
  • Never put a crying child on a ride.

Do you think taking your kids to an amusement park is stressful? How do you keep your family safe?
