Viola Davis, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role as the mother of a boy suspected of being molested in the movie Doubt, is in negotiations for a role in the upcoming Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts.

The film is based on the blockbuster 2006 memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, who travels Italy, India and Indonesia trying to discover herself after a divorce.

Roberts is cast for the lead role of Gilbert, while Davis is being considered for the woman's best friend, Delia.

Filming was slated to begin this month in New York and across the book's other exotic locales, and won't be released till 2011.

My Sister's Keeper Trailer -- Film Based on Picoult Novel Opens Tomorrow

June 25, 2009 at 4:36 PM by Cafe Cynthia - Comments (5)

Huge Jodi Picoult fan here. If there's one author a mom should read to help her feel better about herself, she's the one.

If you've read any of her books, like My Sister's Keeper, the story of a girl who is conceived soley to be a medical donor for her sick older sister, and the first of her 16 novels to be made into a major film, you know what I'm talking about.

All of Picoult's books deal with the relationships between parents and their children, who all face some type of emotional or physical harm. Her message is the same: That no matter how much we try to do the right thing, how safe we try to keep our kids, how much we think we are aware of what's going on in their lives, something always comes along to prove us wrong.

In short, we're not perfect and there are so many things we cannot control that we might as well quit trying!

Terms of EndearmentMovies like Terms of Endearment and Steel Magnolias are great films to watch with your mom (or kids depending on their age) on Mother's Day. Both will make you laugh and cry, and feel that much closer to mom.

There are other great mom films as well...

Hello, my name is Brittny, sitting in for Cafe MichelleL while she's away...and I'm a shopaholic. I confess my most recent splurge was on a pair of Steve Madden boots...oh, and a pair of Fossil sunglasses (they were on sale!!)...and, okay, fine, some Victoria's Secret lingerie, but only because of Valentine's Day! Why am I confessing? Because the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic comes out today!

Chick Flick: Earth Girls are Easy!

January 15, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MichelleL - Comments (4)

Earth Girls are Easy is an excellent chick flick! This late-'80s comedy-musical has a weird charm.

Geena Davis stars as a San Fernando Valley manicurist who finds herself in charge of three aliens after they crash-land their spaceship in her pool. Davis and friend Julie Brown makeover the furry aliens into attractive dudes! Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans are the aliens.

There are also great musical numbers by 80's star Julie Brown! Her song 'Cause I'm a Blond is to die for! If you are looking for completely funny, light entertainment with no heavy thinking required, check out Earth Girls are Easy! Click through to see a clip!

December 9, 2008 at 3:01 PM by Cafe MichelleL - Comments (14)

I love the Real Housewives of Orange County.  Go ahead and make fun of me! I know it's totally wrong. The ladies on the show do not live on the same planet most of us do but I love them!  Bravo's Orange County mama drama is a huge hit and the network has spun off the concept to other cities like New York and Atlanta.  But the Real Housewives of OC is one of my guilty pleasures!

Weekend Chick Flick: Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolias

My choice for Weekend Click Flick is Steel Magnolias. I cry if I see a commercial for Steel Magnolias. I am a Texan by birth, raised in a home that served sugared tea and offered you peanuts in your Coca Cola. Nothing is better on a cold day than wrapping up in a blanket and watching a good chick flick.
