According to the International Ice Cream Association, vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor in the United States. I always get vanilla if I'm having a hot fudge sundae (whip cream, no nuts) and I put vanilla on pie, but if I'm just having ice cream in a cup or a cone, I usually choose something with a little more pizazz.
Serious Eats recently did a vanilla ice cream taste test and tried six national ice cream brands and ranked them on a scale of 1 to 5. Here's how they ranked:
1. Haagen-Dazs (4.5)
2. Ben & Jerry's (4.2)
3. Blue Bunny (3)
4. Breyers (2.4)
5. Horizon (2.25)
I do like Haagen-Dazs vanilla, but I also love Edy's vanilla ice cream, which wasn't tested.
Do you like vanilla ice cream? What's your favorite brand? What's your favorite ice cream flavor?

Since we are vegan we bought a cheap ice cream maker from Target and it is so awesome. We can use soy or hemp milk and make whatever flavors we want and it is so much cheaper than buying soy ice cream. Favorites..hmm...peach with Annie's cinnamon bunnies chopped up in it. YUM!
We don't buy Dreyer's, Haagen Daz or Edy's, as they're all owned by Nestle.
Ben and Jerry's makes some great stuff, as does Breyer's.
I really like Starbuck's coffee ice cream, Silk's chocolate soy ice cream, and my mom's homemade (but FATTY!) green tea ice cream.
we dont buy ice cream anymore. i make it. homemade fave ice cream is butter pecan. soo good. i do however love turtle soup ben and jerry's! good stuff!
vanilla ice cream?
The greatest! You can add anything to it.
You make your own shakes, blizzards or frostys....... I have some candy bars and candy pieces in the freezer just for that reason........ Then there is fruits you can add and you can make your own creations!!
1 cup milk
8 green tea bags
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
3 to 4 drops green food color
2 cups (1pint) whipping cream
Place milk in small saucepan.
Cook over high heat just until milk begins to boil.
Remove from heat & dangle tea bags in milk; gently stir with spoon to moisten bags completely.
Let stand 1 hour.
Squeeze milk from tea bags and discard bags.
Combine green tea milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt and food color in electric blender container.
Whir on high speed 1 minute or until combined.
Whip cream until stiff.
Fold green tea mixture into cream. Turn into 2-quart freezer container.
Cover and freeze 7 to 8 hours or until firm.
To serve, scoop ice cream into individual dessert dishes or stemmed glasses.
Makes about 1 ½ quarts.
For ice cream maker:
Add cream (unwhipped) to blender mixture; mix well.
Turn into ice cream canister & follow directions.
Turn finished ice cream into freezer container.
Cover and store.
