What's one of my favorite things about fall? Warm apple cider with cinnamon and autumn spices, of course! I've been guzzling it at the farmers' market (with these amazing apple fritters) like it's going out of style.
I actually prefer to make my own cider at home because it makes my house smell so delicious! Keep reading for five easy apple cider recipes...
1. Hot Spiced Cider (posted by SophiaofLight in All Things Autumn...)
2 quarts cider
1 cup brown or white sugar
2 sticks cinnamon
6 cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
Nutmeg
Add the sugar and spices to the cider in a large saucepan. Simmer, do not boil, for 15 minutes. Strain and serve hot in small glasses or mugs. A little grated nutmeg may be sprinkled on each glass before serving.
2. Warm Fall Cider (posted by Herstory in Moms Who Love Halloween)
Apple juice or cider
Cinnamon sticks
Simmer apple juice/cider on the stove with a few cinnamon sticks for a few hours. This works great in a crock pot, too.
3. Cardamon-Cinnamon-Orange-Clove Cider (posted by Sparrowl in Moms Who Love Halloween)
Cider
Cardamom-cinnamon tea
Whole oranges
Whole cloves
Simmer cider and tea bags on stove or crock pot. Take whole oranges, and spike whole cloves into the rind. Throw them into the cider when it's brewing for a nice orange-clove flavor.
4. Apple-Cranberry Cider (posted by Happy_Mommy_ in Moms Who Love Halloween)
2 quarts apple juice/cider
1/2 quart cranberry juice
Whole oranges
Whole cloves
1/2 cup sugar.
Stud an orange with cloves. Heat all ingredients (including studded orange) on stove until sugar is dissolved, then pour in crock pot to keep warm.
5. Hot Buttered Apple Cider (from All Recipes)
1 (16 ounce) bottle apple cider
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
In slow cooker over low heat, cook apple cider with maple syrup for 20 minutes or until steaming hot. In a small bowl, combine butter, nutmeg and allspice. Mix well. Pour cider into mugs and top with a teaspoon of spice butter.
