I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year. It will be the first time I cook dinner with all the fixings for a big crowd. *Gulp.* I've got the turkey under control. But the one food that's stressing me out? The stuffing!
Help!
I know it's silly to get worked up over a Thanksgiving side dish. But stuffing is serious business! It's an item that I, personally, look forward to all year. Plus, I feel like the success of the stuffing is an important measure of the overall Thanksgiving dinner. Do I want to go down in history as having the worst stuffing (and, therefore, the worst Thanksgiving dinner) of all time?
*Deep breaths.*
I've been looking through my cookbooks for recipes, and I'm getting really overwhelmed by all the options: Should I cook it inside or outside the turkey? And which ingredients should I put in it? I've seen everything from sausage, cheese, and cornbread to butternut squash, chestnuts, and oysters(?).
Again. Help!
Every family makes it differently—got any recipes or tips to share?

We eat traditional bread stuffing (celery, onions, milk, bread) sounds boring - but it is sooooo yummy - we stuff the inside of the turkey with it. Then we make a "stuffing dujour" outside of the turkey (i.e. sausage or mushroom or cornbread, etc.) - that way everyone has something and it's really hard to screw up bread stuffing and not so hard to screw up our dujour stuffing! LOL
I dont make it because I hate it, lol! If DH BEGS me, I will.. and I just toss in some walnuts, chopped sage, and some bacon. I never cook it in the bird, but I will use juices from the bird on it and such.
I have tried many different kinds of stuffing because I love to try new things but I can say that traditional always goes over best in my house. It is so easy to make and everyone loves it. I like LuminousMom's idea of putting walnuts and bacon in it though, that sounds very yummy!
i wish i could help! i've been married soon 4 years and up to this day we haven't hosted a single thanksgiving =-( this year i have no clue where we are going but i'll bet we are going to a friends house to eat some turkey on that day. with that said i prefer when our friends have cooked the stuffing outside rater than inside, just my opinion, it feels mushy when it is inside i'm more of a dried stuffing king of person lol.
peppridge farms stuffing bag, celery, onions, jimmy dean sage sausage, and little pieces of cut up apple.oh and some extra poultry seasoning to taste...mmmmm good stuff!
1 pan cornbread (crumbled)
2 cans of biscuits (baked & broken apart)
1 loaf bread white or wheat
chicken broth (or the broth that comes off of your turkey)
celery
onion
sage about 1 1/2 tsp
poultry seasoning

I don't know the measurements I never measure it, just dont over do it on the sage. it just always turns out Deliscious! It is hands down the best stuffing on the planet.

I also cook it both ways.
Some in the bird and some out. That way people can have it either way!
