Speaking of mini desserts, I'm enchanted by the tiny three-layer cakes, tiny pies, and cute-as-a-button cupcakes that The Farm Chicks made for a "Tiny Party." Check out the link for even more DIY "tiny" party ideas, including tiny party hats and bags.

Us here at CafeMom loooove cupcakes, and it's Cafe Sheri's birthday today and Cafe MicheleZ's was yesterday (happy birthday guys!), so I thought I'd share some cupcake links I love!:

Is it rude NOT to give out goody bags at your kids' birthday party? Some moms think that party bags are wasteful, filled as they usually are with plastic and sugary junk that usually gets thrown away at home. But others feel guilty and find it hard to part with the tradition of handing out party favors as a "thank you" to guests.
If you think a parting gift is a nice gesture, here are a few creative alternatives to the classic trinket-filled goody bag.

Monster masks? Pin the tail on Max? Tissue paper vine decorations? Sounds like a Where the Wild Things Are-themed birthday party to me! So cute. And so relevant now that the movie is making the book more popular than ever. Party Perfect has great ideas for throwing your child a Wild Things bash.
Do you love the Wild Things theme?

One of the ways I looooove to procrastinate on CafeMom is to hang out in Cake 101, looking at all the gorgeous cakes made by talented CafeMoms. Seriously, I spend hours in there! That's exactly how I came across TwinMom1120's absolutely amazing 1923 Yankee Stadium Cake, which took more than 24 hours to make!
Even if you aren't a Yankees fan, you must see the inside of this cake...

This weekend I'll be celebrating my birthday (yay!) and my SO asked me what kind of cake I wanted.

When I can, I bake from scratch. But there are times when a boxed cake mix are called for. Like at 10 p.m. at night, when I suddenly remember I am supposed to send in cupcakes to school the next morning! Oh, yes, it's happened. More times than I care to remember.
And, so, I pull down one of those boxed mixes from the cabinet, which taste pretty good (though I can spot non-homemade a mile away) but that I know are packed with lots of artificial and additional stuff and chemicals that I don't want my kid to eat.
(What is "propylene glycol monostester," anyway? It can't be good, especially since it sounds suspiciously close to "child molester.")

I love looking at creative birthday or wedding cakes. For me, the more unique, the better!
Just check out this cake from Justina_W for her son (who's name is, appropriately, Jack). How awesome is that?!

Truck Die-Cast Thank You Notes; $6 for 10
My son had 15 classmates at his birthday party recently, and we've yet to send out his thank you notes.
It's not like I can make him write them himself. He can scribble his name pretty well and is learning to write, but nothing more than a few words.
So the job falls to me, and to make my life easier (time time time), I'm thinking of buying a pack of these fill-in-the-blank cards.
