Here in Chicago, parents are in an uproar over reports that despite all the healthy options available as part of the free breakfasts offered by public schools, most kids go for the doughnuts.

Do you ever make "ABC Pancakes" for your kids?
It's not only a fun breakfast treat; it's a great way to help the kiddos learn their letters. My mom used to spell out my sister and I's names in pancake batter—which was easy with my name (Kim), but a little trickier with my sister's (Kristin).
Here's how to do it:

In October, our farmers' market sells lovely fried apple fritters that I look forward to every year. Inspired by this autumnal treat, I made Apple Cider Doughnuts this weekend. An old friend from out of town was visiting with her kids, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to test out this recipe.
Because, really, what kid doesn't love doughnuts?

It's my birthday today!
I begged my husband to "surprise" me with Butterflyfood's Doughnut French Toast (click the link for the recipe) and hot chai tea.
Oh, what a perfect Sunday morning this will be!

I eat oatmeal for breakfast almost every single morning. So I'm always looking for ways to jazz it up. One of my favorite things to make in the fall is apple cider oatmeal. It couldn't be easier to make, and you don't have to add sugar because the cider is sweet enough on its own.

Sometimes it's nice to start the day off with a hot breakfast. For me, simple ham and cheese egg casserole often hits the spot. The best part about this recipe is that you can make it on the weekend, and warm up leftovers in the microwave all week long!
