"Wash Your Hands Before Touching Baby!" Signs

January 29, 2010 at 7:07 AM by Cafe Cynthia - Comments (1)

Moms of new babies want to show their beautiful creations off to friends and strangers ... but they often prefer that to happen from afar. In other words, please don't touch my healthy, fragile, and still-developing-immunity newborn with your germy, dirty hands, no offense.

I always found this so difficult to tell people. It seemed a little too personal, like I was criticizing their hygeine. I would never say "Please shower and wash your hair before you come over for dinner tonight." But that's how it sort of felt.

A lot of moms who find it rude or awkward, or who just get tired to repeating it over and over again opt for a visual warning sign instead. The ones above hang on a stroller when you're out and about.

The following is a guest post from our sponsor Puffs.

We recently sent Puffs Ultra Soft and Strong tissues to a handful of CafeMoms and asked them for their honest opinions.

All agreed that to them, Puffs Ultra Soft and Strong tissues seemed stronger than other tissues they'd used.

"Definitely had a stronger and softer feel than the store brand I usually buy," says AgentBrez.

"They don't tear as easily!" Aidensmomma508 added.

We know that every mom keeps a supply of tissues handy, so we also asked them some questions about how they use tissues in their everyday lives. We got some pretty funny replies.

Do any of these sound familiar to you?

I had the flu—twice—in December, and although most days I was too sick to lift myself up to a sitting position, I did have a few moments of semi-consciousness in which I realized just how bored I was to be lying in bed all day...

holy water fontIn an effort to combat the spread of H1N1 flu, an Italian has invented an electronic holy water dispenser, which functions like the automatic soap dispensers found in public restrooms. (Click link to view.)

This is good news for me whether it's flu season or not—those communal holy water fonts always grossed me out!

So how does it work? Churchgoers wave their hands under a sensor and the machine spurts out holy water. See? Awesome!

Swine Flu Guide

school corridorCafeMom RaeLynn1221 does not vaccinate her children against the seasonal flu, nor did she want her little girl immunized against H1N1. She just doesn't believe the illness is as bad as the media is making out to warrant it.

And yet, the school vaccinated her daughter without her consent. There have been stories of this happening other places, but this is the first I've heard involving a CafeMom.

RaeLynn1221 is sharing her experience her to let other moms know that while it may not be common, mistakes are being made:

Obama Daughters Vaccine Controversy

November 1, 2009 at 7:41 AM by Cafe Cynthia - Comments (8)

Swine Flu Guide

swine flu vaccineMany CafeMoms are in no rush to line up for the controversial swine flu vaccine. Some say the Obamas weren't either. Malia and Sasha apparently waited two weeks to get their shots along with other school children in Washington D.C. Seems like a non-issue, right?

Some people are commenting on blogs and the web that the Obama girls got preferential treatment for access to the vaccine, given to them by the White House doctor last week.

It started when a man from Texas, with two compromised special needs kids living in his home, complained he hasn't been able to get the vaccine for the children, who would be given priority over healthy children. But different areas are getting the vaccine at different times. There's no shortage in Washington, D.C.
