I'm behind today, and I think it's because I'm just now having my first cup of coffee, and I can't get moving without my caffeine. (I will check out affordable coffee makers in Home & Garden yesterday.) I'm addicted, and I worry whether it's healthy. Luckily, from what I've just read, it is actually good for us--in small doses.
An article about the health benefits of coffee in the New York Times states:
Why the benefits? Apparently, it's because coffee is richer in antioxidants than even dark-colored grape juice. Antioxidants help control cell damage; and less cell damage means less disease. The caffeine looks to have little or no benefit other than helping us get the sleep out of our eyes.
Of course, though, all things must be consumed in moderation. Doctors suggest we drink no more than 4 to 5 cups a day.
And here's another coffee danger as pointed out by dzsteph: Be careful that your toddler doesn't get burned by hot coffee or the coffeemaker.

Thermal Carafe Coffe Makers are an excellent option if you have small children and are concerned about safety. The carafe keeps coffee hot & fresh for hours, eliminating the need for the hot plate. As a mom of toddler twins, I found that using a travel mug for my daily coffee "fix" greatly reduces spills as a result of four little hands grabbing at my cup.
