BBQ is delicious, especially Cafe Kim's Fourth of July recipes, but cooking meats at high temperatures, especially if it's well done, can contaminate the food, making it harmful.
But good news...Whole Living says if you marinate meat with herbs rich in antioxidants before it goes on the BBQ, you can reduce the chances of potentially harmful chemicals called heterocyclic amines or HCAs from forming. HCAs can cause cancer.
So what herbs are best?
Rosemary, thyme, sage, and oregano.
If you are pregnant, check out this article on how to survive the BBQ. There are suggestions on how you can cook meat in the oven, then transfer to BBQ at the end for taste.
Happy (and safe) grilling this 4th of July!
