hits newsstands September 22

Like a lot of us, Janet Jackson's weight has yo-yoed more than she'd like. The only difference is, she's had not-so-flattering photos of herself splashed across the tabloids. In the October issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine (on which she gorgeously graces the cover), Janet talks about her struggle with her weight, which she attributes to being an emotional eater, and her upcoming diet and self-esteem book True You.

She tells Bazaar: "[The book]  was originally about weight loss. But I wanted it to be more about my triggers. I can be an emotional eater. Of late, I have been doing that, yes. It started when I was very little. My brothers were gone on tour a lot, and I would miss them so much. Certain things in my life would become triggers. I wish I’d had a book like this when I was that young. People forget that everyone has things going on. It’s still important to face reality, and not that I’m running, but sometimes you just need to get away for a second."

Jackson is writing True You with David Ritz (who co-authored her book I, Janet) and it is scheduled to come out in 2010 by Simon & Schuster.

To read more of Jackson's interview with Harper's Bazaar (she opens up about her brother Michael Jackson's death for the first time), check out the October issue.

Are you an emotional eater? What makes you binge?

Many many people struggle with emotional eating, it's a hard thing to overcome.  As fit as I am, I struggle with it occasionally.

I am definitely an emotional eater, and I feel like I've made a lot of improvements and found other (healthier!) ways to relieve stress, but old habits die hard and it can be easy to slip back into emotional overeating again.

You are so right Nathalie, it's like any other addiction that never totally goes away..all you can do is keep it in check!

OMG YES! that is why I have to keep a Little Black Book-Daily Food Diary with me! If I don't write down everything and see what I have consumed, I won't stop. Writing it down helps me limit or have a stopping place for the day.

Also, sometimes I have a 60 calorie Tootsie Roll Pop because it gives me a lot to mouth and takes a while to consume. ;p
