Kids vs. Christmas trees... Gosh, you might as well decorate your tree in toys. That's what imasurvivor did at her house.
With a two-year old in the house, I know we're currently finding ornaments strewn around every room in the house. And then there are the broken ones. Every. Day. Another. Broken. One. We even have a bowl for all the broken ones. My five-year old calls it the "ornament hospital."
Needless to say I loved this über kid-friendly Christmas tree idea from imasurvivor.

This is one to bookmark for next year! You too, expecting moms and moms of babies and young ones.
Cafe Suzanne shared CafeMom ideas about Baby-Proofing the Christmas tree and Cafe Cynthia shared the Toddler-Proof Your Christmas Tree woes from CafeMoms. This tree is also a really good solution. If you can't beat 'em, give them toys.
+++ So who's winning at your house? The kids or the tree?

When we were kids, my mom put felt ornaments on the tree, problem solved. Our problem wasn't so much taking ornaments off but knocking the tree down which killed off some ornaments pretty quick. Oh, and watch out for the babies too, my nephew at 14 months found a nice red ornament on the tree, took it off, and promptly bit into it. OUCH! He had to be taken into emergency to make sure he hadn't swallowed any glass.
My mother is from Louisiana, but moved to Texas when she was young. One year my mother decorated her tee with little plastic crawfish and red peppers. My eldest (who was 4 at the time) took all the crawfish down and redecorated her nativity village with them. It was a sci-fi Christmas scene that year!
next year i plan to have the kids make ornaments all year long so when its time to decorate they will have their own tree for their ornaments. nothing big just a 3 footer probably that way i can decorate my own tree with what i make!!!
We bought a cute little white picket fence & painted it with christmas decorations & fake lights & wreaths. Then we put it around the bottom of the tree & gifts, so the little kids & dogs, etc, couldnt reach! The cats still did though, kept finding them in the branches!

We have the Tree Czar here. The 21 month old loves to remove ornaments, walk around the house with them in his little shopping cart and then give them to me to put back on. We figure that by Christmas day, he will have touched all of them. And, all of them will be put back on the tree above about 3 feet. It's a good look.
