Sense memories are often unforgettable because they are experienced through one of the five senses — sight, sound, touch, smell, or taste. These kinds of memories hold fast in our long-term memory.
I asked several CafeMoms to share one of their favorite childhood sense memories — one unshakable and positive memory that has stayed with them since they were girls.
The answers I got are downright poetic. Completely beautiful. And even more amazing to consider from the perspective of motherhood — to think what our children might someday remember and cherish about home and daily life... Wow!

I mean, how on earth are you going to show your guests your dirt rug, as sculpted here by artist Cal Lane (lovely huh?), if you keep sweeping and vacuuming up all that dirt?
See more of Lane's beautiful Dirt Works and industrial doilies on the Cal Lane website.
Dirt is pretty! Long live dirt!

Ugh. Cleaning the floors! Again!
Well, what if cleaning the floors was as simple as loafing around your house? As easy as sauntering, meandering, and occasionally chasing small children around the house in your slippers?
Here come Slipper Genie microfiber cleaning slippers!

Cleaning should lead to things being clean, but why does that never seem to be the case? Here are some links I love dealing with the ongoing pain:

I love using my pretty IKEA glass votive candle holders for special occasions and even not-so-special occasions. They add so much glow to a room!
But glass votives are so frustrating to clean because they always get that gunky, wax build-up in the bottom. Mine always looked dirty...until I found this easy technique to clean them.

My husband is much better than I am about remembering to turn off the clothes dryer before we leave the house. His good friend from high school lost their family home this way. Lint caught in the trap and in the exhaust duct can become overheated and lead to a clothes dryer fire.
Listen to what happened to ajzuell recently:
"I went in my bedroom to lay down and watch TV. My man comes in the house and asks what's burning. I wasn't cooking -- then I thought about he dryer! He checked it; there was a fire in the back! Lucky after pouring water on it three times, it was out. I never noticed the burning smell. He smelled it from the outside. I'm scared to use a dryer now. I will be hanging clothes out on the line for a while now!"

So I'm a creative director at a digital ad agency, and one of the perks of my job is that sometimes I get to try my clients' new products early. One of the accounts I'm on is Bounce.
Not sure if you've heard of this new dryer bar, but I was given the Bounce Dryer Bar Outdoor Fresh for free, so we'd know about it for our work. And I was recently asked if I'd be willing to share my experience.
OK, so yes, it looks kind of like a maxi pad (sorry clients!). It's true though. But I'm OK with it, because it stays in my dryer anyway. What I like about it is the very fact that it's out of sight, out of mind.

Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore
We've decided to paint our beat-up looking cedar shake house a nice medium gray, inspired by a quaint little home the next town over that I absolutely love. Picking the general color was the easy part of the process. Then came the hard part -- finding the right shade.
We started this project on Friday, and already we've been through about $30 paint samples. Woodsmoke Gray was too green; Driftwood was too light; River Birch was too brown. Those samples are a great idea, but the paint chips never look like you think they are going to look on the actual house. One side now looks like a funky chess board.

Most days, I cannot even force myself to read an article about cleaning house. I hardly want to think about cleaning house, let alone read about it.
But this post about keeping the house clean, this one got me...

Laundry (and everything that goes along with it, i.e. ironing) is hands down my least favorite chore. Here are some laundry links I love:
