If you're growing some hearty autumn/winter vegetables, you probably can't eat them all (do they multiply underground or what?).
Here's a cute idea for making a carrot vase (albeit that's one GIANT carrot) from the folks over on Design Sponge. Wonderful.

Until last weekend, I had never heard of pumpkin on a stick. It looks like mini pumpkins growing on a branch! Here's how I have it displayed in my home.

It's not just the upside-down tomato plants that aren't producing this year. (Remember that conversation?) Growing tomatoes right-side-up has been harder than usual this year due to an explosive outbreak of a plant disease called late blight, which is attacking home gardens and commercial fields across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Even Martha Stewart got tomato blight—in fact, she lost 70 percent of her tomato crop this year!

If you're wanting to add a little visual interest to your garden, try building a garden trellis. It's as easy as 1-2-3.

redheadedspchld has been waiting two years for her epiphyllum strictum to bloom, and last week it finally did. Epiphyllum are cacti, and many of the flowers bloom only at night. Some only last the day; others will remain for weeks.
redheadedspchld took a picture of the bloom every hour to document the process.
Click for the Epiphyllum slideshow and see her marvelous white flower greet the world for the first time.

What's the best way to keep the cat from eating the house plants? Hang them from the ceiling in one of these darling hanging plant boxes I found on Little Chicago Bungalow. All you need is wooden crates and some wire (and probably a step ladder).
I'm stealing this idea for my house!
Do you like this look?

Summer's in full swing and tomatoes are ripening on the vine...well, at least they are in some places...
Cafe Sheri wrote about Topsy-Turvy Hanging Tomato Planters this spring, and I'm interested in hearing how they're working out for everyone. As such, I've taken a (very informal) poll from friends and family about how productive these tomato plants have been so far this summer...

According to Yahoo's Buzz Log, First Lady Michelle Obama's hope for an organic garden at the White House may be a ways off. It seems sewage sludge is getting in the way.
