It's fun to think about baby names, and the options are endless -- flower names, nature names, names of states or countries, combining names, picking a theme if you have more than one kid. But ebbierowe has some advice for you -- she posted a totally just-for-fun list of things prospective parents should keep in mind when choosing their baby's name in The CafeMom Newcomers Club. Some tips?

  • Be careful how you combine words -- not all combinations are created equally.
  • Beware of funky spellings -- some just don't work, mamas!
  • State names are great, but make it a first name and not a middle. Examples? Michael Indiana or Katie Georgia. You kid may wind up sounding like a town.

Check out the full list -- and don't take anything too seriously! Remember, it's all in good fun. Do you have any baby naming "rules" of your own to add?

I think the most important thing to remember is that, that child has to grow up and become a working professional with the name that you give them. i think it is important to consider that YOU might me preventing YOUR child from getting hired by giving them that funky waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out there name! and for gosh sakes....make sure is SPELLS what you want it to SAY....hooked on phonics people...look em up before you butcher your baby's names!

Yep, don't name them some cutsie name that doesn't grow up, or doom your kid forever by having a weird spelling/pronunciation.

Yeah.... um...why is it that celebrities think they can name their child anything? Bronx Mowgli Wentz? Come on, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson! He has to live with that for 50+ years!

I lived next door to a couple who's last name was White and they named their daughter Snow.  Not a joke either.  AND my Mom's next door neighbor's were Jack & Jill.

I went with the method of picking a name that they could use as a CEO or a hippi if thats what they chose to do. lol For Example my sons name is Edward. Edward is his CEO,DR, Banker and so on Name. Then he has Eddie or Ed (i dont htink Ed sounds professional but thats just me lol) as his Hippi/druggie name. My daughter is Lilliana. Lilliana is the profesional name and Lilli if she chooses to be the hippi/druggie.

My Dad gave me a piece of advice that I think ALL Mom & Dad's should keep in mind when naming their sons. Give them a name that they can transition into a man with! Because they aren't going to be little forever!
