Formula Mixer: Take It or Leave It?

Prince LionHeart Formula Mixer, $3.99, from Babies R Us

Last week I asked you mamas-to-be if you thought a wipes warmer was a baby essential or not -- and you let me hear from you! This week, I'm thinking about formula -- did you see Cafe Suzanne's post about some formula in the U.S. being tainted with low levels of melamine, the same thing that made babies in China sick recently?

Regardless of the scare, many moms will need or want to use formula at some point -- do you need a gadget to mix it? Let's see what you think.

Item: Formula mixer

Cost: A few dollars to about $15, depending on the model

What it does: Acts sort of like a whisk for baby's formula

Pros: Helps ensure that baby's formula is nice and smooth

Cons: Why mix when you can shake for free?

What do you think?

Breastfeeding or shaking is easier and much cheaper!

I agree with the comment above..breastfeeding is healthier, safer, cheaper. If formula must be given, it is not that hard to offer it "shaken or stirred!"

In other words, no gadget needed!

I totally would have used it. It is hard to shake and shaking doesn't work that well. I stir right now but a whisk would be awesome!

I used it with my second (because it wasn't around for my first). It only cost $3.99 and kept out most of the bubbles that appear when you shake. With that said... it certainly isn't a necessity; however, it was a conversation starter.

It could be a definite help but I am pretty sure I can get a cheap little hand mixer that's used for making things like chocolate milk for much cheaper than $15. I do think it would help reduce bubbles in turn reducing gas.

$15 might be a bit much, but I think this is great!  I have a similar product already, and I use it for everything from hot chocolate to instant breakfast.  If I were a formula feeder, I'd totally use it: shaking only works so well!

Is it really THAT hard to shake a bottle?

Willy...

I saw one of those and thought wow even if it was free I don't think I would use it! shaking a bottle is not hard and you don't have to wash something extra where you would with that. Personally I think it's silly and would actually take more time if your formula feeding.

Willy...

To get the formula mixed you don't need to shake very long I don't understand why you would waste the few bucks to buy something else that has to be washed or laying around. JMO though.
