Have you read about this documentary film, "Orgasmic Birth," that's been making the rounds at film festivals this year? Moms around here have been talking about it.
The film was made by a childbirth educator and doula named Debra Pascali-Bonaro and her premise is: What if women were taught to enjoy the birth experience instead of just trying to get through it?
Enjoy it indeed. Pascali-Bonaro claims the "best kept secret" of childbirth is that some women -- get this -- have an orgasm as the baby leaves the woman's body. She's not saying it happens or should happen with every birth -- merely that it's possible, as women in the film report. An OB/GYN in the documentary notes that the huge hormonal surge a woman experiences during birth could contribute to the feelings of ecstasy.
You can catch the doc on Friday, January 2, when it makes its primetime debut on "20/20."
What do you think? Orgasms during childbirth -- anything is possible or puh-lease?

LOL, my Dad read an article about this right after I had my son and asked my Mom to ask me about it. Um, no...it was anything but orgasmic! There are definitely some weird feeling going on in there, some that maybe could be considered pleasurable (for some people), but not for me!
well, all a contraction is would be a muscle spasm-toss an extra dose of endorphins ontop of that nad you have an orgasm. though i'm really glad i don't have a baby everytime i have an orgasm.
I can't wait to watch it.. My natural birth was a breeze compared to my induction with #1.. Would love to give O.B. a go.. who wouldn't.. It seems like an amazing exp..
I had my whole family with my at both my births- well the men weren't right there- they were in the living room (I had the boys at a birthing center- converted house)- I didn't mind having them there- wanted them there but I would feel weired having an orgasm in front of them?
I can't wait to see 20/20 though
Hm....I think I'll pass on orgasming with doctors, family, and my brand new baby around.
But hey--if you can get one in I bet it's a nice payoff. Hours of labor, contractions, pushing. . .A moment of sheer delight. Just hope it's a good one!
something about having a baby and an orgasm at the same time just doesn't seem right to me....I wouldn't want my baby there while I was having sex with DH so why would I want to have an orgasm during delivery? JMO
