So, I'm Pregnant. What's the Big Deal?

reaction to pregnancyshrugging

I was over the moon when I found out about my son, my first pregnancy that took a little bit of doing. I was a tad shocked but still pleased when I learned about my daughter (who was coming sooner than expected).

So, sure, it's hard for me to relate to what moms like briana_paige are feeling:

Pregnancy Week by Week: 13

pregnancy week by week 13

We're joining Kim (aka wntg1grl), a stay-at-home mom of three who's expecting twins, on her exciting journey from bump-to-babies. Check back every week for the latest developments.

Week 13
What's Happening with Mom:

I had an ultrasound last week. It's surprising how much my little ones grow in just two weeks.

They did confirm once again that these are fraternal twins (or "roomates" as the doctor calls them). They are each separate from each other with two placentas and two complete sacs. He also says that as far as twins go, this is the best case scenario because they are not sharing anything but my uterus. That is welcome news.

Week 12
What's Happening with Mom:

My blood glucose test came back within normal range, so I don't have gestational diabetes right now. It's a relief, but I'll be re-tested at about 26 weeks.

I also went for a nuchal translucency, an ultrasound that measures a fluid-filled space on the back of the babies' necks, on Friday. They combine these results with the alpha-fetoprotein test (AFP) to assess the risk for Down syndrome and other health and chromosomal abnormalities.

I was relieved that my (or their) Down risk is very low -- not any higher than a 34 year old with a single fetus. BUT ... as it seems to be with everything ... I will be re-tested in about six weeks.

We're joining Kim (aka wntg1grl), a 34-year-old stay-at-home mom of three who's expecting twins, on her exciting journey from bump-to-babies. Check back every week for the latest developments.

Weeks 10 and 11
What's Happening with Mom:

Last week I had a blood glucose test, drinking the awful orange flavored syrup. I failed! I have never failed one of those, so I went back to drink more disgusting fluid.  This time it was a more intense test.

They drew blood when I got there, then every hour for three hours. I get the results this week to find out if I have gestational diabetes.

I also had the AFP test for Down syndrome, and will see a perinatologist on Friday for a detailed ultrasound. They do all of these tests earlier in a twin pregnancy. The combined results will determine the Down risk.

tea for pregnancy

Nausea? Check. Heartburn? Yep. Crazy mind, can't sleep, crazy dreams? Oh yes.

Sigh. Pregnancy is supposed to be beautiful. And yes, it absolutely is. But I would get to enjoy it a bit more if this mama was a little happier.

How about a cup of tea to the rescue?

Meet Kim (aka wntg1grl), a 34-year-old stay-at-home mom of three who's expecting twins next January. Since Brittany (bam61907) is now officially a new mama, we're hopping on Kim's bump-to-babies journey at her 9th week.

Week 9
What's Happening with Mom:

I have three boys (Garrin, 9, Casey, 7, and Logan, 18 months), but I always wanted another baby. My plan was to have one more to give Logan what Garrin and Casey have. They share a beautiful bond. But my husband Donnie, a lineman for the power company, did not.

He loves the boys he has, and it's hard to spend time with each of them. He felt stretched too thin, and said another would compound that. Understood and agreed, I said.  Well, we spent several months talking about it. He never actually said, "Yes, let's have another," but we were unprotected, and both knew what "could" happen!  And IT DID!

saddness and fear early pregnancy

I need a hug!

I'm 11 weeks into my first pregnancy and I feel really sad today. I know I should be happy and thinking positive thoughts, but maybe it's the hormones raging inside me making me down.

Sea Bands: Morning Sickness Cure?

June 4, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (16)

sea bands morning sicknessTwins in my belly almost guarantees me morning sickness, afternoon sickness, and night sickness. Though my friend who had triplets had no nausea whatsoever. Lucky!

I've tried and continue to try everything -- saltines, popcorn, fruit (especially apples), real ginger (in all its forms), and eating five small meals throughout the day instead of three. Still, I lost about five dinners, three breakfasts, and have dry heaved so many times I lost count.

Until I added Sea Bands to the mix.

Food Aversions While Pregnant

food aversions while pregnantHello first trimester. Hello morning sickness. Hello food aversions. And hello boobs! I am usually a 34B on a good day, so pardon me for relishing in my new melons! But the rest -- bleh. Don't get me wrong though. I am still happy as a clam. Wait, clams? Bleh!

I've got some strange food and drink aversions now that I'm pregnant with twins.
