Time for Take It or Leave It Tuesday, moms-to-be, where you weigh in on must-have items for your baby registry. Last week, it was the Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier (most moms said they'd leave it.) This week it's a way to swaddle your baby.
When I was in the hospital, I remember being soooo impressed with the skilled and speedy way the nurses wrapped our babies up snug and tight -- like a little baby burrito. And when I got home, I used a Miracle Blanket with both of my children and found swaddling helpful in getting them to sleep in those first early weeks. But I know moms who didn't find swaddling useful, too -- or who didn't use a special blanket to do it.
The Miracle Blanket is one way to swaddle baby -- but there's the SwaddleBaby blanket and others, too. Let's see what you have to say.
Item: A way to swaddle baby
Cost: About $20 - $35, depending on the blanket
What It Does: It helps wrap baby snugly for sleep-time
Pros: Some moms feel it minimizes newborn flailing of arms and legs, allowing for better sleep
Cons: Once you get the hang of wrapping, you could swaddle your baby (if you find it works for your kid) in a regular blanket, free of charge
What do you think?

The way we swaddle our baby is to lay him so that he is ccentered at the top of the blanket, the bottom of his neck meeting the top of the blanket, then fold one side over, tuck it under, fold the other side over and tuck it under, then wait for him to draw his legs up and fold the bottom up toward his face, tucking the sides underneath him. It takes 5 seconds, literally (I timed it). The trick is wrapping really tight. It looks uncomfortable to us, but he loves it because that is how he was when he was inside Mommy. So easy, I think swaddlers are a waste of money.
They say that the baby feels secure and safe like when in the womb.
It really will comfort the baby.
LOVED the miracle blanket. We called my son "Houdini", but this was the one swaddle he couldn't escape.
my son was huge 11pounds 4 ounces 21.5 inches so we had to use a large blanket to swaddle him in and he LOVED it i had the nurse at the hospital show me how she wrapped him so i could do it at home he had to be swadeled till he was 9 months old
Anyone who needs some help with swaddling should find a video of Dr. Harvey Karp using his swaddling technique. He does a great job of demonstrating a good swaddle, and all you need is a regular little blanket.
i think it is great.............did it with all mine with the blanket from the hospital........they didnt have all those cool swaddle blankets back then......they loved it and i had one that was very fussy that i kept and i used a big blanket to swaddle him in till he was 4 months..........it was the only way to get him to sleep.........i think he was one of those failure to thrive babies and he fussed alot and made his body rigid when you were trying to cuddle him or feed him...........
I had one of these and both my kids loved them! Connor loved to be wrapped and would wake up if he came undone. He slept swaddled until he learned to roll over. As a preemie it must have been so comforting to him since he was swaddled in the NICU as well.
Personally, the one I had was so easy to use. It came from Wal-mart but I don't remember the brand name. I was able to leave their arms out with the one I had with no problem. Yes, it's easy to swaddle using a blanket, but when you have a kicker or a wiggler the velcro is wonderful.

This might be something I would get. My daughter loved being swaddled but I was not a good swaddler, my hubby was a pro though, so this would be great for when he's not around, lol.
