There are plenty of un-fun pregnancy symptoms -- constipation, morning, sickness, trouble sleeping, peeing a little when you sneeze.
Braille93078 asked moms in Pregnancy if it's normal to have swollen ankles, too -- and what you can do about the swelling.
Here's what moms had to say.
Swollen Ankles During Pregnancy
With my first I was swollen everywhere and they said it was OK -- just relax and put your feet up. -- rachelsmom3
A little is normal, a lot is not -- I had a lot of swelling in my ankles, knees, and face and wound up with preeclampsia and had to be induced. Check your blood pressure and then keep an eye on it going forward, too. -- mamachristine
It's normal, but if it gets very uncomfortable or if the swelling is sudden, then you should see your doctor. It could be a sign of preeclampsia. Put your feet up for a while, and if you sit at a desk at work, put a box under your feet to elevate them and take frequent quick breaks to stretch your legs. -- MomToBelSaMom
Try some ice! -- bambi1105
Have you had swollen ankles while pregnant? Was it a lot of swelling or a little, and what did you do to relieve it?

YES!! I didn't even have ankles towards the end of my pregnancy - my legs were the same size from the knee down! If your blood pressure is okay, they drink plenty of fluids and try and keep them up as much as possible. The swelling should go down after delivery. My scary story is that mine didn't and since it wasn't a change and I didn't have high blood pressure at all during my pregnancy or labor, I didn't think anything of it, however, my blood pressure had skyrocketed and I was rehospitalized for 2.5 days!
a lot! but it was caused by toxemia/pre-eclampsia and i had to have my baby very early.
you couldnt even see my ankles.
Oh my, my ankles were so swollen that I seriously could barely walk. My doctor was convinced there was something wrong (pre-e or blood clot) and as it turns out nothing was wrong, I was just unlucky with the swelling. The last two weeks I couldn't even walk or stand for my than 10 minutes at a time.
I have had 5 pregnancies, and 5 healthy boys...and I had swollen ankles, usually towards and in the third trimester...I also gained a lot of weight...and everyone of them was okay. One did have and does have problems, but not due to the pregnancy. With all the little aches and pains throughout, labor (back in the day, no epidurals) -- I was lucky I went fast -- potty training, which made me yearn again for labor, I would have another baby boy or girl in a hearbeat. But I think it more likely my time and age (47) is leading me towards waiting for grandchildren -- which may be even better -- who knows. What I do know, my husband will be the greatest grandpa around!
I am 37 weeks pregnant and have had terribly swollen feet for about 7 weeks now I have had blood pressure problems but I eat very healthy very low sodium in my diet I have only gained 20 lbs. which is much less than I gained with my first child I had preeclampsia with her they almost took her at 7 months pregnant instead they put me on bed rest and the swelling went down but I am on bed rest now and I wake up with swollen calves, ankles, and feet. I can barely get out of my tub because I use my knees and calves to get out of my tub and they feel as though they're going to pop it's actually very painful!!! I would love to tell my doc but he decided to go on vacation the week that I am supposed to see him and didn't feel the need to lets his patients know or have one of the other docs in his office see me!! What should I do?
LOL, one of my feet swelled. And it was pretty sudden: we were at a family reunion, and at one point my foot started to itch. I looked down and it was huge! I think the other one eventually swelled a bit, but not as much as the first!
I didn't while pregnant, but for like TWO WEEKS after delivery my ankles were so swollen that it gave new meaning to the term "cankles". It was DISGUSTING. Nothing I did made it any better, they just finally went away...My mom said it was the pitocin, which by the way, you should REFUSE.
With my first, nothing swelled at all. It was great. NOW I'm almost 39 weeks and I've been swollen for about 4 weeks. My feet are itchy and feel bruised and weird and misshapen. LOL. I can't wait for it to be over!!
I have to agree with "mamachristine". My ankles were swollen and my doctor took me out of work for a week. I layed around as much as I could and kept my feet up. The swelling went down. He said that it was probably preclampsia, and took me out of work for the rest of the pregnancy. If you drink lots of water, and keep your feet up as much as possible you may be ok, but I would definately talk to your doctor.

With my last two pregnancies my feet swelled really bad. But with the very last pregnancy,my feet swelled so big that I couldnt wear shoes! They looked like massive sweet potatoes.LOL The dr's kept telling me it was normal to have swollen ankles, but my left foot is now bigger than my right. It stays puffy all the time! And sometimes it swells real big and I have to sit and put it up.Turns out I have hypothyroidism and hve for a really long time.
