Week 23
What's Happening with Mom:
No tests this week but the doctor visits went great! I'm gaining weight regularly, only 3 lbs. in two weeks and had another cervical exam, still at 5cm (they begin to worry if it's under 2cm).

Week 22

What's Happening with Mom:

My husband and I met with a genetic counselor. She was a wonderful dose of information. So glad that we went. First she discussed the "positive" result.

This can be misleading. It just means that my risk is higher than the average. This in no way means either of my twins HAS Down syndrome, but that with all of the factors considered (i.e. -- my age, AFP levels, and gestational age) that my risk is one in 91 for Down. If my risk was above 1 in 200, my results would have been considered "negative."

Week 21

What's Happening with Mom:

I'm feeling a lot more kicks. The doctor says it's impossible to tell one baby from the other.  Some of you wondered why I have ultrasounds at each appointment ... that's why. To make sure both babies are okay.

Last week I took the final blood test for my AFP. This is the second trimester test. It came back POSITIVE! Grrr!

I'm not worried about the results because I will not change anything with the pregnancy. I will not have an amniocentesis unless it is a MUST for a medical purpose.

Week 20

What's Happening with Mom:
I feel kicks now ... sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right, sometimes high, and sometimes low. It looks like a little "jump" in my skin right by my navel, like someone in there is saying, "Let me out!" with a little punch. Kinda like one of the cowboys or Indians from Night at the Museum was mad and trying to escape.

The problem is that they don't seem to kick at the same time. This can be frustrating because I am not feeling that "Oh, the babies are fine" feeling because I can't tell one from the other.

Week 19
What's Happening with Mom:

I had an anatomy scan last week. Everything looks great with the babies and, yes, they are without a doubt two girls!

They did a vaginal ultrasound to check my cervical length, and it is nice and long (whew). I will see the perinatologist every four weeks from now on to measure the babies' growth and my cervical length.

I also had my OB appt. I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight (darn).

I've felt a small bit of movement this week. I don't feel them a lot, mostly in the evening when I'm not busy. I cannot tell who is who ... I wish I could.

Week 18
What's Happening with Mom:

We have decided on names for our twin girls: Sadie Gene and Shae Marie I am nervous about my upcoming anatomy scan next week. I really hope the tech didn't make a mistake and they are really girls! Once we have that confirmed, we will go ahead with the planning.

I am growing quickly, and doing too much really affects my breathing ... I get short of breath very easily!

Week 17
What's Happening with Mom:

I may have overdone it. We were camping at the beach ... a little too much action for me. Now I am having a lot of back pain. Not always the sciatic nerve, but just plain old lower back pain. It stinks!

I am still waiting for quickening. That is such a magical part of pregnancy, and I am getting anxious. At my last appointment, I had only gained ONE pound. That is shocking. I am four months pregnant with twins and I am  still 7 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight. I thought it would all come back so much faster.

Week 16
What's Happening with Mom:

I had my second gender determination scan and, well, the tech says that both babies are GIRLS!!! I am so in shock by this news. I am excited, but apprehensive. I don't want them to change what they see.

Having three boys at home, two girls would be such a change that we all are welcoming ... finally! I just don't want my six lines to turn into two turtles, hehehe.

Week 15
What's Happening with Mom:
This week was pretty uneventful. I discovered what causes me to vomit -- when I get too hungry. I think my stomach acids get bored and make me throw up. After the vomit session, I eat and feel fine. I also need to watch the amout I eat.  A big meal will make my stomach upset.

I had an ultrasound to determine the gender, but 15 weeks is a bit too early. Baby A gave up nothing, and baby B ... well, it was hard to tell. The tech didn't want to get me excited, but she's leaning 85 percent toward girl.
