It's Take It or Leave It Tuesday. Up this week: a way to position baby while he sleeps. I used (and loved) my Miracle Blanket, but I never tried one of these for better baby sleep.
What about you? Are you registering for one?
Item: Summer Infant Inclined to Sleep Positioner
Cost: $25
What it does: It keeps baby sleeping on his back, as the AAP recommends. And a slight incline supposedly helps digestion.
Pros: Helps alleviate the back sleeping/tummy sleeping SIDS worry, and can make a tiny new baby in a big crib seem a little more snug.
Cons: Is it really necessary? And baby gets big fast -- this item will have a short life span.
FILED UNDER: take it or leave it
We had one but the baby spit up on it on day one, it took me over a week to finally get it cleaned up again, and when I did get it clean I never put it back in the crib. Not worth it for a baby with normal digestion (I don't know about a baby with reflux). A rolled up recieving blanket on either side works just as well.
Leave it. The suffocation rates for sleep positioners are extremely high. That's why they now have breathable baby bumpers and things of that nature.
I liked mine. The one we had was just the two side peices not the bottom part.
With YOUNG INFANTS they can be very useful, actually. If they CAN'T ROLL OVER they can't suffocate.
My daughter liked hers. Helped her feel nice and snug when it was too warm to be swaddled.
For GERD babies, these are great. Since you prop up their mattress, this helps them stay at the right angle so they get the benefit of the mattress tilt, without sliding down.

Every doctor Ive ever talked to has said these things are useless if not directly harmful. If your baby is can roll over, no sleep positioner will stop them from doing it.
