Form-Fitting Maternity Wear: Stylish or Trashy?

There's a maternity clothing discussion going on in The CafeMom Newcomers Club, called Pregnant & wearing form-fitting clothes... what's your take??

What do you think? Should pregnant women keep the snug fit to a minimum?

I know I was glad when between my first and second pregnancy, the maternity clothes got more fitted. I'm short and the extra pregnant pounds made me look even shorter. The maternity tents weren't helping.

When it comes to the fit of a woman's maternity wear, I pretty much feel "to each her own." I'm not saying I haven't seen some definite "no-no's" walking around, but mostly, I just think a woman should feel comfortable and happy in her clothing, whatever that means for her.

Do you flaunt your pregnancy bump with form fitting styles or let your belly peek out the bottom of your T-shirts? Or do you think pregnant women should wear more modest and loose-fitting maternity clothes?

Tell us what you think about maternity clothes: huggy snuggy, loosy goosy, or somewhere in between.

I had never heard of or saw too many woman wear the snug fit clothing when I was carrying therefore I didn't, however I think it looks nice and would wear some in the future if needed.

I like the look of the snug fit, but I don't think the belly should peek out underneath the shirt.  But, when I was pg, I worked in the business world and it wasn't appropriate.  I found many maternity tops didn't give me enough coverage at the end, though, and my belly would occasionally peek.

Super cute maternity look! And I agree with Juniper63098 -- the tops should be long enough for full coverage -- at least that's how I prefer it.

I agree with PP.  As long as the belly is covered, I don't see any problem with it.

Somewhere in between huggy snuggy and loosy goosy is my vote! One issue with the snug fitting clothing is modesty..clothing that is too tight, revealing, etc.is immodest. Another issue with the snug clothing is fabric..natural cottons are better for our bodies than the synthetic fabrics that provide that snug look.

I think that shirt on the top of the page is VERY cute. I would have wore it... I don't think women should hide their belly when pregnant. Flaunt it and be proud.

I loved my snugly fitting clothes, but also liked the ones that let me kinda hang loose  sometimes too. The one thing I couldn't stand, was that I had a few ignorant people make comments about seeing my bellybutton (that as all you probably know became an outie) poking through the fabric of my shirt. I would have probably let my belly show a little bit, if I hadn't got those dastardly stretch marks; however, I do think that your age should kind of determine (to an extent) how much is too much to show.

I preferred snug fitting maternity wear... I liked the fact that I could just keep wearing stuff I would normally wear, just bigger.  And I figure pregnancy is the only time when you will actually want to show off a bump on your midriff! LOL!  I did hate my tummy poking out the bottom- I was to that point by the end of my pregnancies simply because I got too big for my maternity clothes.  Yikes!

i think there is a difference between snug/form fitting and looking slutty by craming your belly into pre maternity clothes that dont cover you lol

i like snug or form fitting but not super tight when im pregnant!

So cute when it's form fitting! But like all things, there is a way to do it and a way to not do it. Basically anything that is appropriate when your not pregnant is great when its tighter across the belly.
