summer survival guide

best worst things about pregnant in summer

My niece loves the park and ice cream --

just like me!

I keep hearing Oh you are so lucky to be pregnant now in the summer. To tell you the truth, I feel super lucky to be pregnant -- but summer has nothing to do with it. There's good and bad for us mamas in the warmest months. Let's start with the good news...

Top 5 Best Things About Being Pregnant in Summer

1.  I can still fit into my flowing summer dresses and won't have to buy many maternity clothes (if any).
2.  I can go for a walk outside or in the park (great exercise) and not be cooped up in the house like I would be if it was 5 below.
3.  Summer sandals fit much better with my swollen ankles.
4.  There's no snow and no ice outside for me to slip on.
5.  Italian ices, Snow Cones, ice pops, and ice cream!

OK, ready for the worst things?

Top 5 Worst Things About Being Pregnant in Summer

  1. Those swollen ankles in sandals? Well, my feet look like sausages stuffed in and protruding over the ankle straps. Not cute.
  2. There's no snow on the ground to hide my throw up from my morning (noon and night) sickness that unexpectedly comes up when walking outside.
  3. I don't know about you, but I had some serious body odor because of my hormones in overdrive. I'm sweating in places I never thought possible. Stinky.
  4. I am officially a mama bear -- hair is sprouting up in places I never had hair before. What's up with my furry belly and knuckle hair? No bikini for me. And yes, I would totally have rocked a bikini.
  5. No sipping frozen margaritas at happy hour at an open air bar with friends. I know I can do virgin margaritas, but it's just not the same.

Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy to be a mama bear. Just wanted to shed some laughs on what this mama-to-be is feeling right now.

What about you? What do you think is the best and worst things about being pregnant in summer?

Not being able to reach my legs to shave them so I can pull on my capris... ugh.

I definitely have a problem with the ankles and feet looking like stuffed sausages - LOL! I don't wear shorts because of that. Luckily I only have 2 more weeks to go, but my worst is being in places that don't have A/C. We have been visiting family a lot lately and a lot of them don't have it, talk about sweating and being miserable...at the moment my favorite place to be is relaxing on my own couch with my feet up, a cold drink by my side and the central air on...aahh!

Best...Not having to worry about slipping on icy sidewalks!

madam...

I've been pregnant in the summer with both of my children. I won't be pregnant much longer now and I went through the entire summer with my first daughter (she was born october 28. summer was over but here in NC it was still pretty darn toasty.)

But ya...It's been months now since I've actually shaved my legs and I'm stuck in long pants because of it!

Then again...Either extreme season (summer and winter that is) lob different challenges at you. Being pregnant in the spring and fall aren't all that bad.

Best: I love showing my bump off, so I love wearing my swimming suit! I love how my body looks pregnant, and its so nice to go swimming because when you're weightless you don't feel like a 2-ton mammoth rampaging around.

Worst: Can you say "fat storage"? I'm not too worried how I look, but when its 100 degrees outside and you've put on 20lbs in the last 6 mo, I feel like I'm wearing insulation and I'm fairly certain the backs of MY SHOULDERS haven't ever sweat before! They need to make a deodorant for pregnant women. I'd buy it!

Best-I can still do most things just be very careful.I will not have to drive and walk in all the snow and ice this winter and be worried about a accident,I can just get up and go,no waiting to warm the Jeep because my garage has the my Jeep cool already when I take off in the summer.More days of sleeping in because school is out and I am off work, prepare for the Fall which is my favorite season and my baby will be here as soon as Fall is here.

Worst-going outside and being hot until I get in air,the bugs, not getting on water rides when I go to water parks, having virgin drink at barbecues while everyone is buzzed and chill, having to save every other week, not perming my hair and having my hair sweat out and get frizzy, the bright sun being out allday long, being stuck in the house at times because you cannot go and do what everyone is outdoors doing.

I live in Tucson, AZ now but I used to live in Ohio. So I know what it is like to go thru the ice and snow, not too much fun. But the summer heat out here is no fun at all. You are always wanting something cold to drink, and then you are always going to the bathroom. If you get too hot or are out side for any amount of time you feel sick and most of the time you go back in the house and you get a drink just to end up getting sick cause you are still hot.  And the A/c helps little but you still gotta have the fans on you at the same time. Then you go to get dressed and all you really want is a sun dress but there are none to be found. What is up with that? lol If only I could find a place that was only spring and fall all year that would be great.
