When Should the Nursery Be Ready?

baby room

Hubs and I in the nursery! It's a start!

Last week my husband and I were in a panic. Yeah, both of us, which is bad because we didn't have one to talk sense into the other. We were looking at our empty nursery. We have not one diaper in the house. And we just entered our third trimester. Oh and we're having twins and can go early.

I called my mom.

She told me that she had nothing before I was born. She didn't even have a baby shower. When she was in the hospital after giving birth, my dad and her best friend went and bought everything needed and set it all up.

I know a lot of people wait until after the baby is born, but I'm a planner and so is my husband. Plus, almost every weekend from now until Thanksgiving is filled with some sort of something, so there really isn't a lot of time. OK deep breaths...I won't panic.

My mom did calm me, and then the next day some magical fairies bought us two cribs, a dresser, and a wardrobe closet. Those magical fairies were my mom and my sister. They didn't want me to stress out. So sweet, right?

Of course I still need a ton of stuff, but it's a start and I'm trying to not freak out about things I shouldn't freak out about. Like...oh, what we are going to name the twins!

Is your nursery ready yet? When do you think everything should be ready?

What nursery?  I moved halfway through my first pregnancy.  Then our son co habitated in our bedroom for the first 19 months of his life.  We bought a handful of clothes, a bucket seat, and a box of diapers before birth, that was it.  Didn't have a baby shower either and I've never felt like I missed out on something.

This time, nope, no nursery again.  Son has a bed in "his" room but it's really "the children's room."  Baby will be with us for six to nine months, then into the other bedroom with a crib that hasn't been purchased yet.  We saved baby clothes from our son, mostly gender neutral, and his bucket seat is still in good condition to be used again (it's less than two years old and was only used for about six months).  So we're set as far as I'm concerned.  :-)  Oh, and no baby shower either again.  I feel like showers count the chicks before the eggs hatch, i.e. bad luck to anticipate too much, and that they force people to buy stuff for you.  Not into doing that.

Daily...

i know lots of moms who either didn't have a nursery at all or started putting it together after the craziness of the pregnancy and birth settled down, about 6 months after having the baby. So don't stress out! Everything will be A-OK! :-)

Im a HUUUUGGEEE planner too. I had to have everything in order before my twins arrived. I had checklist after checklist. May sound chaotic to some, but it was organization to me. :) The nursery still isnt how I'd like it to be, but my boys still sleep in our room. (Theyre 4 months old). The only things we really "needed" to start out with were diapers, diapers, burp cloths, bassinet, diapers, more burp cloths, and did I mention diapers??!  :)   Good Luck to you!

Fragi...

I am a planner too...and I got the crib shortly after I found out I was pregnant. And over the time I've been pregnant I have gotten everything else. I still need a couple more little things but as a whole I have all the big things that were needed. I can't imagine waiting until the last minute...*shivers*

CherB...

My son is 4 months old and still doesn't have a 'nursery'.  He is still in our room in his cradle.  The room that is to be his, is currently our office, soon to be re-floored and repainted to become his room.  Not the way I wanted it by any means, but well that's the way it is.  *sigh*

our kids didn't sleep in their nurseries until they were about 2 months old.. they slept in bassis by our bed.. so really I don't think they HAVE to be done by the time babes are due... then again, my DD was born 6 weeks early and I was glad I had everything unpacked and ready for her when I did!

Um, we have a crib set up. Does that count as "ready?" And then the clothing, etc. that I got from two baby showers - all that stuff is still in bags and boxes with tags on. I'm working until 38 weeks and will be induced the following week. I don't know when I'm gonna get everything done.

I'm a planner too but my little darling son decided to come 5½ weeks early, which was also the day we were painting his nursery (and by we I mean my mom as I ate snacks) lol Dh can't paint so he was excused. haha.

We bought a pack n play/ bassinet the day I was released (before Kaden left the NICU) and we had some diapers but didn't plan on preemie diapers or clothes so there was a mad rush for that... It did help out that the hosp. sent us home with a couple packs of preemie diapers since they knew we hadn't planned on needing them. :)

My LO is almost 7 weeks old and is just now starting to have something close to a room!  Don't stress. Your babies will be just fine without a nursery should it come to that. What you truely, really need is so much less than what you think you do.
