Barack Obama Baby Naming Frenzy

November 16, 2008 at 7:22 AM by Cafe Melisa - Comments (7)

OK, maybe not an all-out frenzy, but some new parents around the world are bestowing the name Barack Obama -- all or part of it -- on their new babies in the post-election hubbub. Particularly parents in Kenya, Obama's ancestral homeland -- but a couple in Florida chose Obama, too, for their kid.

It's a distinctive choice -- and I'm guessing if you named your baby Obama chances are pretty good he'd be the only one in his Pre-K class. Would that be a good thing?

When it comes to baby names, do you say the more unusual the better, or do you prefer a more conventional choice?

It's a distinctive choice, that's for sure.  LOL  I don't think that one's for us.  I definitely prefer more traditional names.

Although I am a supporter of his, I would still wait to see how his term(s) turned out before choosing the name.

BUT I also only name my children names that no one else has (that I know of).   So it would not be an option, in reality.    :- /

I say name your baby what you want to name them...if it happens to be unconventional, then it's unconventional...if it happens to be common, then so be it.  Who cares what other people are going to think about your kid's name?

Whether you voted for him or not (which I didn't), you shouldn't name your child after a new president. After all, people voted Clinton in, too - would  you want your child named after a man known for what he did with Monica? Like 'doulala' said, wait until you see how his term turns out before naming your child after him. I voted for the other guy, but even if he had won, I still wouldn't name my baby after him!

I don't name my children after people in the here and now! I do Biblical names-that have a good meaning and what not! The name Barakor Obama wouldn't fit in w/our family's names!

Katie...

I'm all for tradition...and easy spelling!
